Lots of outside stuff going on today. Did some fun stuff & some chore stuff.

 

Mowed and weed eated the yard for the first time this year, needed it last week but it was too wet. Thankful for the rain we’ve gotten.

 

So you are thankful for the rain that washed you drive out? I'm confused, did I miss something?

 

Went to the dealer and they looked the mower over. They fixed the bar that keeps the belt from coming off but was actually pressing hard enough to damage the belt. For the squeal, they said that is normal, as is the excess slack in the belt. I will use it as is for now. Maybe the belt and pulleys being new just need to wear in a little bit.
They wouldn't cut the welds and make the adjustable bracket adjustable. So, I guess I will do that in a few years after the warranty is up.

I might have missed your reply. Did you have any issues with the motor after the oil was coming out the air filter?

 

Nope. I removed the 90 elbow and run straight pipe to the silicon hose. Still runs like new. I don’t run it on choke like that anymore. All I did was clean out the foam filter with starting fluid and the air box. Runs like a champ

 

I need to do that. Have a few holes in the grass.

I'm thankful I have a drive that can wash out. Coming where I came from with houses everywhere, I'm thankful to live where I can't see houses. I'm also thankful for the rain we've had recently with all the fires everywhere.

I guess the moral of the story, be thankful no matter where you are or what is going on.

Lexi works good for that you can still see overhead loads pretty well with it depends on the lift truck though

 

I have no idea what it is. And most of the stuff I carry is banded coils on pallets.

 

can't go wrong with the bx23s. That backhoe has come in handy so many times for me already. And, it has allowed me to dig up literally 12-18 tree stumps (at least 4-6 big ones that weighed over 400 lbs) and clear the land flat.

 

A few turn into the cascade range. Get after em early and you might not need a back brace to mow

 

Found out it's the stuff from the stalls in restroom. They took a piece and cut it down.

 

I'm not sure if I should give you a weird side eye look or say good use!

To be honest with you, I recall breaking down the bathroom stall partitions when I was in somalia (the stadium) to use as floors while living under the stadium seats (they were marble). So it couldn't be that bad to use it as top cover!

 

these were left over from the new installation after the the Helene flood. They tore out the entire restroom and redid it from scratch.

 

Sooo remember how we were talking about burning and brush fires and crap a few weeks ago?

Well they burned off the field in front of our house (around 160 acres) on Friday. Thought they did a good job...disc the perimeter 3 runs, had plenty of guys out monitoring it and all that. It burned off just fine. Well come Saturday around 1pm and the wind started picking up. It got dusty and looked a bit smokey out in the field. Around 230 the wife calls me and says "I think the telephone pole" is on fire. We both stared a bit (this is a good half mile away mind you) before I said Ill grab the fire extinguisher and go check it out.

And in the couple minutes it took to grab the extinguisher and hop in the truck things got worse. Luckily a different neighbor had come to investigate as well and we both arrived about the same time. He called 911 (as did my wife at that time). The fire jumped the highway and caught the brush on the other side of the road on fire which is also a business (an auto body shop). It spread fast and started burning some of the cars BUT I was lucky and we noticed it had just jumped over by the yellow dump truck/old bus thing (in the right of the photo) so I ran over there with the extinguisher and was actually able to get that area put out but used all the water I had. That pretty much put out the fire on that side luckily.




Told the neighbor Id go refill and be back. Which I did and it took like 5 minutes. By that time.....pretty much all the cars directly in front were in some stage of burning so wasnt much I could do there. The fire chief/head officer guy had arrived by that time but not the actual fire department. Gotta say he kind of pissed me off as I got out of my truck on our side of the highway and started spraying down some areas still burning/smoldering just to keep it from burning further down that side of the road. But as im doing this he just came up to me with an attitude asking what i was doing and if this was my field and blah blah. just being aggressive. All I told him was i was just spraying down the hot spots over here so it stops spreading till the brush trucks got there. Annoyed me at the time.

Anyways though once the fire department arrived I just stood back for a minute or two then went back to the house and got the tractor with the back blade on. Since the FD was mostly focused on the business and cars burning, I just set out on our side in the field turning over the smoldering/small fires. At one point on of the other fire officers came up to me and asked if anything seemed to be in danger (there were a few other buildings in the area) and I told him no and was just turning over the hot spots I did find. He thanked me for doing that and just said to flag down one of his guys if anything got bigger.



but you can kind of see the buildings further down that we were a little worried about. Where I took the picture from was our driveway and had it jumped there too it could have run down the road and there were more buildings and farm equipment not to far down that way.


As for damage....thankfully the cars that burned were mostly all scrap. There were two tractors parked there that im not sure on the damage. And one box truck was parked along the other side of the cars on fire and took some heat damage (charred paint and the plastic front bumper partially melted). So nothing to bad. That initial area I put out....we went and looked at that and that had the potential to have gotten real bad. To the right of that picture it just turns into a big field of parked scrap cars in grass.

As for the cause? Our best guess is old leaves or something from the corn piled up in the pivot tracks must not have fully burned. Then the wind picked up, got them hot again and eventually blew them out of the tracks till the found the dry grass
