Mid Travel BS 2.0

How old are the aftermarket parts? Could be UCA bushings or uniball. I had almost the exact issue and found the lower shock bearing to be worn out with a lot of play. Popped in some new ones and all was good.

doing similar setup on my truck. This is a good plan. If you're really on a budget the Bilstien 5165s are similar to the 7100s to my knowledge but a few bucks cheaper. Another thing to consider is your hangers/ubolt mount plate and the cost of doing those.

Also, an unforseen cost you may have tackled already or maybe not is bumps/straps. 63s are super flexy and you may need to do a limit strap to prevent bottoming out your shock depending what length you run. Bumps are dependent on how you use the truck of course but with a setup like that you'd be amiss to not pair it with at least a upgraded rubber bump to protect your shock.

 

The typical 63 kits come with most of that other than bumps and straps. Kinda need new hangers/ ubolt plates to mount 63's....

Bumps dont have to be expensive. Anyone with some creativitiy can mount some generic bumps for $20. Chevy 1500 bumps are used alot.

Dont forget really long brake lines. Normal 24" extended brake lines dont cut it.

 

FYI, If you go with 7100's the eyelets aren't as wide as everyone else. Spacers will be needed for it to fit snug in the shock mount. For that reason I went with 12" FOX instead.

 

I had a similar issue. Couldn't get a good alignment... then figured out that my lower uniballs were TOAST. The ball almost fell out of the spherical cage when I removed the lowers ....

New uniballs and magically, the alignment worked.

 

Good points! I just figured I'd mention hangers/plates as he said he was getting junkyard 63s so a kit would be separate. Bumps are easy for sure, but can definetly be spendy if you want to tailor them to your application. I run timbrens because I'm mostly slower crawling, but if you're jumping/racing, a hydro or air set is probably something to consider. Idk much about the 1500 bumps but they might/might not be able to handle extreme usage.

Brake lines are also a good point. I need some of those myself before I take the new setup wheeling. Any good quality brand recs?

 

I got them from crown performance. I did have to call and I just asked for 28" tacoma brake lines.

 

Do you know what shock mount would they not fit with? I have the DRT ones.

 

I mean. They fit. Just loose. I went with the archive garage relocation kit. It's my understanding that most kids are designed for the typical big brands which are all the same measurement. If your bottom shock mount is pre assembled and you cannot adjust the spacing then it is most likely too big.

 

Gotcha. I know you went with foxes instead so you didn't have to do this yourself but you figure just the right width of a 1/2" washer between the shock mount and the shock itself would fix it?

 

About 10k miles now. Truck got new lowers and cam hardware with suspension. Uniball about the same on both driver and passanger side, I was thinking maybe not enough pre load on it, because it only clunks when coilover are extended. The paint marks on lower cam bolts have not moved.

 

I've heard some people used stacked washers. There's also a member somewhere in here that would make and sell spacers. There's also an option to remove the bottom bearing and replace it with bushings. I forgot the exact model number of the bushings since it's been a while. That's the route I intended to go before I went with the shocks.

 

I did end up going with a bilstein 5165 13.1in because I found it cheaper with a 170/60 valving

 

what length brake lines should I get for full droop Link?

A couple months ago I installed Radflo ext travel coilovers (2.0, nonresi) and JBA UCAs in the front of my 96 4x4. For the rear I got the General HD springs and stock replacement 2.0 Radflos. I've got sliders and a steel bumper, but otherwise no constant weight.

When the General HDs need replacement, I'd like to go mid travel in the rear. A SUA conversion and Chevy 63 conversion seem to be about the same amount of work, the springs and shackles are just more expensive for the SUA conversion. Is that correct?

Is there any travel to be gained by relocating shocks with the General HD leaf pack?
