Do you have any idea how many 1st & 2nd gen Tacomas that are well above 250K mileage and running around the world. Two of my coworkers daily drivers are at almost 300k.

The 4th gen came out late in 2024, only time will tell about the actually reliability.

PS, my minivan vs the 2.4 turbo for long term reliability, I’ll put my money on the non-turbo.

Just as info Toyota makes exceptional mini vans. Best of luck with your overpriced 4banger.

So glad I was able to pay off my 2021 a few months early.

A Tacoma in the hand is worth 2 in the bush....

Or... A paid-off 2021 Tacoma with 25k miles on it in the driveway is worth 2 on the dealer lot.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
    Paid 40,200. 23 OR 15k miles.

Anything similar would have been gone in a few days. This was two decembers ago. Georgia.

Of all the colors and trim options, I think yours is the best. That is a nice looking pickup!

I know that I paid a premium but it was the truck for me so I am happy. Wanted something reliable so I could drive my classic defender a lot less. Have had a long line of classic Toyota 4x4s, my first Tacoma.

Maybe on this site? I don't know. I've never heard that. Matter of fact, most info I found on 3rd gen reliability prior to my purchase two years ago suggested to stay away from anything 2016-2018, as those were the years with the most issues. By 2019 they worked them all out and anything past 2019 up to 4th gen release, was the "perfected version" of the 3rd Gen.

Thanks - the wife wanted me to buy it I had zero interest but now I love it.
I would have chosen Cement and I like the Red as well, but I bought it when they were flying off the trucks already sold.

Still, she cleans up nice and I try to keep it in showroom condition as my son will be driving it one day.

Picked up a 2022 SR5 4x4 DCLB over the weekend! $37.5k. 18k miles. CPO, one local owner. It was originally bought and traded in at the same dealer, and the prior owner had the oil changed 5 times at that same dealer in the 18k miles he/she owned it. I looked at, and drove a few local CPO 3G's in the last week, and this one was the nicest I could find - its like new in every way.

There are some things about the 4G I traded that I do not miss at all. I had a '24 SR5 with the SR5 Upgrade and Cold Weather packages to get the integrated brake controller and JBL system system specifically, but both were a disappointment. I was also having transmission issues that were gradually getting worse but wouldn't repeat at the dealership, so they were taking a 'watch and see' approach (my truck fell within the VIN range for the transmission TSB issued).
What I will miss is the low end torque that was similar to a small diesel (would pull our local hills at 1700 RPMs), and I found the heated steering wheel to be something I never figured I'd use, but had it turned on almost all winter. I might actually miss that, LOL.

Some surprising items that I didn't expect on the 3G is the nicer ride quality - softer, which for me is nice as I have lower back issues that have plagued me for a decade, and the cab is quieter than the 4G. Perhaps thicker glass on the 3G, since on the 4G you have to get a higher trim level to get the acoustic glass if I'm remembering correctly (plus the V6 is smoother and quieter than the 4 cyl). The power drivers seat and dual zone climate control are also nice to have vs the manual seat and no available dual zone climate control in the 4G at the SR5 trim level.

Overall, I'm very happy - I feel like I got a fair deal on the purchase price of the 3G and a great trade in for the 4G.

You did good. When the 4G's were just coming out I played the lotto trying to win enough to buy
up every 2023 on every lot and just sit on 'em. Put 'em in a warehouse with armed guards and dogs.
Guess I'd throw in some Maine Coon Cats to keep the mice away too. Then I'd hire some scantily clad
babes to be present when I was around to pose provocatively to complete the experience.

I looked for months and just bought this 2023 AC 4WD V6 w the SX package and a really nice LOMAX rigid bed cover. I purchased it at Huffhines Chevrolet in Plano TX for $34k. Still under warranty w 34k miles. These Access cabs like this one are selling from $31k to about $38k here in the DFW area. I love this truck! I was driving a 1999 Tacoma SR5 Xtracab w manual windows and now have it for sale locally.

That SX blackout is so cool! Nice truck, and with 2,000 miles of warranty left!

My 4 banger smokes the 3rd gen all day long btw, i don’t have to worry about pulling out in traffic with a dog mini van motor and horrible gear hunting transmission.
Oh and overpriced? I paid 4k off sticker for my 2025- you guys are buying someone’s used truck for the same price as my 2025. Tell me who’s making the right financial decision long term. It sure as hell isn’t the people ponying up for mini van 3rd gen’s.

imagine thinking a 3.5 Tacoma is some special must have vehicle.
You’re talking to someone who’s owned 3Gs btw both manual and auto. The 4G is a completely different tier.

Imaging the new turbo 4 banger at 300K miles, and when I say imagine…thats the only way it’ll make it there.

Don’t beat yourself up, we’ll do it for you lol.

    Happy you're happy.
Happy I'm happy with my 2021.

You should create a thread called Turbo Review and give us updates on the 4th Gen.
Come see us in 5 years and advise of any issues you've had. Or none.

Funny to hear someone brag about being foolish enough to buy and sell not one but two 3rd Gen's.

I don't think some people realize the absolute brutal wear and tear a 4 cylinder engine takes carrying and pulling the weight of the truck and contents at highway speeds for all those miles. Sure, the Turbo helps it out, but it's still a LOT of wear. And likely somewhere between 100-200k miles, that thing will start burning off excess oil from that turbo charger usage. Now you got a worn down oil hungry 4-banger, and the downhill slope that is it's lifespan is only getting steeper.

This dude's anti-3G posts smack of buyers remorse. I'd pay him no mind.

The only thing foolish in this thread so far, the 4th gen guy trying his best to convince us how fantastic his truck is lol.

Come back in a few years when you truck has matured, along with yourself.

Life is to short, have fun and enjoy your new truck, 7 post in to argue over who’s truck is best.

Best of luck fellow Tacoma owner. Oh wait, you’re in NY, forget about it…
