Hi Guys so I decided to do something about that unusual rattling noise and here is the result I am going to post the diagnosis from Toyota. FYI they are charging me 12,000$ for a new small block assembly (6500$ + 25hours of labor etc) I don't know what to do anymore I can't afford this kind of repair and I live in NB Canada by the way. Any suggestions/options ? Thanks

You could sell it by parts/part it out, or sell it the way it is to someone else. Buy what you can afford that runs well for now.

I agree with others find you a good used engine.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
So, there was a loose spark plug? I ain’t falling for that “needs an engine” shit. Put it back together with new (tight) spark plugs and drive the shit out of that bich.

Request to see snapshots of the damage...no...like others said run it and see.
Im suspect of "dealer fraud". Get an indy shop second opinion then if they agree sell it with the info disclosed to potential buyers. Move on

Run it even if it does have scored cylinders. Keep your oil topped off and go. Could end up plugging your cats over time though which could be a problem if you are in an emissions state

Wait you think they can lie on the diagnosis ? Im sure they could have exagerated but my truck DID have metal shavings in my oil, blue smoke sporadically, and the rattle is distinct... found a 2019 3.5 V6 engine with only 60k miles on it for 5500$ CAD (3800US$) 1hour away from where I live is that worth it ?

Don’t need any of that for the engine. To put a non OR/Pro engine in his OR, he needs to remove the vacuum pump, install the sealing ball in the cam, and block off the hole using his stock block off plate.

That is 100% the way I’d go in that case. And if it was mated to the same transmission as you and is the same 4WD or 2wd as yours, then the engine harness already on it should work too unless it’s damaged. In that case move your harness over.

Can't comment on whether you need a new engine. But FYI loose spark plugs on 3rd gens is pretty common. I've encountered several 3rd gens at 60k mile service with a spark plug or 2 loose from the factory.
