Went to the spot this morning to prep for the next wave of work. Huge ass tree blown directly across the very top of the driveway. Of course it was literally dripping wet green too, so heavy as balls. The pile is just what I had to cut to sneak in with the truck, I'll get the rest later.

So I had to do that before I even picked up the pick and shovel. It's like noon and I'm gassed

Well, disappointed but not surprised. The 3rd member ended up having 43 ring gear teeth and 11 pinion gear teeth. ....3.91s.
Emailed ECGS to see if they would purchase it as a core.

Stupid question..in general, how long should the rear drum brakes last on our vehicles mileage wise?

When I was still working full time and had to go out to clear the driveway so I could get to work I'd call this "Doing a day's work just so I could go do a day's work."

As the lawyer's would say, "It depends." Mostly on how much cargo you carry and how often. In 231,000 mile in my old Tundra, I think I did rear drums once, while it was probably 4 sets of pads and rotors up front. I'm due for my second brake job in a couple of thousand miles on my Tacoma, but they only mentioned the front brakes, so I expect I'll get similar results with that Taco.

OTOH, if it's used to carry a lot of stuff often, the rear brakes will wear faster.

How's that for a definitive answer?

My last taco went 228k and only replaced them when the rear wheel axle seal leaked. At 170k on this one and will be having @tacobell007 tending to them in the next few months.

I could have gone 200k+ miles my original shoes, but I replaced them years ago (at 100k miles), and after 80k miles, those shoes started squeaking badly, so I replaced them again, and now those shoes seem to be holding up well. My cousin's 2004 Tacoma has 230k+ miles on it, and those shoes have never been replaced, and they still have more than half life left!

    Happy Birthday Alex @emelianenkov!

I checked mine probably 20k ago. They start at 5mm of pad life and mine were at 3.5mm at 150k. Don’t plan on doing anything until an axle seal or wheel cyclinder goes. Min spec was less than 1 if I remember correctly

Thanks all. Mine's about 148K, pedal seems to go down a little further nowadays. I can put my toes of my other foot under the pedal barely from the side. Top of my skull I'm on 4th or 5th set of fronts..might be that time I suppose?

Flashing lights on my street on the way home today. Cop blocking one lane of traffic. Tree fell blocking the road but most was on one side so that was good. A detour would've added 20 minutes to my 7 minute commute.
