    I have a 2016 Tacoma.

I’m getting ready to install a Pop & Lock power tailgate lock that I bought off of Amazon.

I recall that I’d read a thread where someone had posted about using Epoxy to strengthen the corners or the weaker points of this product.

I’ve searched and can’t find this thread.

Has anyone done this modification or can anyone direct me to this thread?

    Thanks.

Where are they strengthening it? The Actuator? Mine was a Chinese knockoff from OEM but has held up for years now. My advice would be to put a little blue loctite on the bolt that holds the actuator and do not over torque. There is a little detent on the side of the tailgate handle that keeps it in place so no need to go crazy on that bolt.

No need for epoxy. Mine is fine with no modifications

Thanks for both of your responses.

I don’t know why that poster put something up about the need to reenforce the product - my pop & lock in unopened waiting to be installed.

if I recall correctly about the post - it was something about the corners of the product.

Haven't seen that post but my Pop n lock has been going strong for 6 years - unmodified.

Why would anyone buy a product that they know (or were told) had weak points that needed additional epoxy to correct?

If you do decide to use epoxy on plastic, make damn sure that you have the correct epoxy for the plastic.

Good question - that’s why I wanted to read the post before I opened the package.

Buck, do you own this product? Do you have any input on this specific product?

Thanks - that’s a good point. I’m not advocating using the epoxy, I was just asking if anyone had seen the post on this forum.

Thank you for your relevant and helpful comment.

Thanks, your comments are helpful. I just printed a hard copy of installation instructions. I’ll study them before I start the project.

It is helpful to hear from someone who has actual experience with the product.

I own the OEM tailgate lock assembly. Install was plug and play easy and it has been flawless for years now. The OEM is probably going to cost a bit more, but not enough IMO to go with what is considered a substandard product. Having said all that, either way you will probably be OK. This thing ain't rocket science. :)

    Follow-up.

I opened the Pop & Lock tailgate locking actuator that I’d ordered off of Amazon, inspected it, played around with it, watched a couple of YouTube videos and decided it was durable enough to live inside my tailgate. I found the product very well made, so I decided to go with it.

I installed the aftermarket tailgate lock assembly in about an hour. It was very easy.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I appreciate them.
