Here's my first outing from a few years ago in my '98. This was October in Minnesota and the wife, dogs, and I kept cozy!

Camped at Wharton State Forrest in New Jersey this weekend, 30F overnight but diesel heater kept the tent toasty warm.

I was testing out two diesel heaters this trip and one of them did not start (in the picture), then I fell back on to my trusted LF Bro diesel heater, worked well.

20241124_064318.jpg I went out for a two night camp trip, used my LF Bros heater both nights. Second night was in the teens, and the thermostat was set to 12° C and kept me warm all night.

I do like it. I built a kind of cabinet thing on the one side of the bed so I'm relegated to the other side for sleeping. I'm not that tall but too tall for that with the tailgate up. I bought the Topper Tent at the same time as the Softopper almost two years ago, they've been on two multi-week trips where it got used most nights and another eight or so overnights in various weather conditions. I think i remember seeing that there's an updated version, but I'm not sure what the changes are. Most of my complaints are niggling and it's still preferable to the alternative. Overall, a great combo.

Pros: Inexpensive. Added comfort and privacy. Takes up little space. Designed to work perfectly with the Softopper but also compatible with regular toppers if I were to upgrade. Once you've done it once, it's very easy and quick to set up and tear down or remove from the topper. It has a screen in the door for ventilation if you choose.

Cons: It doesn't take up much space but it will compromise a little visibility as it seems impossible to roll it up tight enough against the ceiling to be totally out of the way. There will be a couple of gaps near the bed rail where you transition from zipper to velcro, and possibly around the tailgate = potential bugs getting in. If you've got it super tight around the tailgate, the door zippers are a little chincy and will separate occasionally, but they have always gone back together if I reverse the zip and I have learned to leave it a little slack. Provides no insulation of any kind. I've had to superglue the hook and loop to the bed a few times because it eventually starts to pull off when I repeatedly tear down in the morning.

I have these. Pricey for lights but really nice. I like the dim amber setting and the fact that they come in a nice case with a 4-way cable to charge them all at once. I've only used them on the outside of the truck via the magnets.

Inside I have a set of these strung up around the bars of the Softopper and connected to a power station - https://www.rei.com/product/159147/revel-gear-trail-hound-30-ft-camping-light?sku=1591470002
