Disgusted with myself as nearly all brake lines are stripped

Was so excited to install some stainless steel brake lines I got. Even bought a 10mm flare nut wrench. Tried pen fluid. Tried a flame. Tried locking pliers. Nothing for the life of me will work. I’m at wits end and this is the most I’ve ever felt like a loser. Watched countless useless YouTube videos. What are your recommendations? At this point I’m already planning on replacing the whole brake lines.

I'd like to see the answer as well. I did the same thing and quit before I totally broke something. Nuts are mangled.

 

Not judging, all I got, is, are you certain you were turning the correct direction?
Sometimes orientation can be confusing.......
a good brake guy can cut the brake line at the nut, install a new nut & reflare...
without losing hardly any tubing...
Just need to weigh-out the cost vs the heartburn youre going to be dealing with replacing brake lines.........

 

Penetrating oil, soak overnight. Then use a pair of Vise Grips to gently rock the fastener back and forth.

What brand of flare nut wrench did you buy? The cheap ones cause more harm than good.

 

Was this a cheap HF/Amazon flare nut wrench? I had one and the jaws flexed when I applied any little pressure to it, so it defeated the purpose of a flare nut wrench to begin with. Combination of poor mfg tolerances (wrench flat spacing too wide) and poor design/metallurgy. A good flare nut wrench should be slightly difficult to fit over the flare nut. Example:

In the front, the section of hard line between the hose and the 90-deg elbow fitting on the frame is fairly short. I would just buy a set of replacements from the dealer. This way you don't have to deal with the rounded flare nuts in the future. You have a 2007? P/N 4731404150 (RH) and 4731604150 (LH). They're like $9 each.

 

I was hoping to do this as well and am now worried about mangling them. I've never felt comfortable bleeding brakes so maybe I'll have a shop do this for me.

Thanks I got the wrench from O Reilys. Planned on getting these as well. Only issue is the rear brake lines lol. Also taking this line off will be just as difficult, I guess I will pen oil the crap out of it for 2 weeks every few hours LOL. I don’t have many other options.

 

If youre rounding it again, stop...
Try torching the crap out of the fitting using a heat gun if you have one...
Cant hurt, may help....

 

The one in the pic is screwed…I use a flare nut wrench (Snap on or Mac)and give it a fast pop with a hammer,it works for me anyways.

 

O'Reillys has bad brands and decent brands. Avoid "Power Torque" and "Great Neck" flare nut wrenches lol.

Rears are trickier due to tight confines above the fuel tank. A flex head flare nut wrench would be very helpful there, example:

Make sure you have a tight-fitting wrench before attempting the rear lines, or go to a shop. The rear lines don't have a convenient upstream disconnect nearby, so if you round off the flare nut, repairs are far more time consuming.

These are super interesting. Are they meant to hold round things like the brake lines? How’d you use them just curious

 

that's exactly what they're for. They hold tight on 3 sides.
Wish they made a smaller set also, these are kind big in certain places.
I was in your situation, and used them on my tacoma front lines. and many other vehicles since.
You might also invest in a small torch, and a piece of scrap sheet steel for behind it to keep from burning stuff nearby. The wife's gardening/planting shovel will do in a pinch as a heat shield too. https://www.autozone.com/test-scan-...ag-torch-mt780-butane-micro-torch/1243231_0_0

 

oh and crack the bleeder screw before you heat it so the rubber hose doesn't blow

 

You don't loosen the brake line to bleed brakes. You open the bleeder valve with a regular wrench.

 

In our trucks bleeding is stupid easy. Just stick a 2x4 on the brake petal with the key on and use a little bleed setup(hose into a bottle with a little brake fluid). The electric master will pump for you so you can just work the bleeder. Open til bubbles are gone then close it up. Dont forget to watch the resi though.

 

Yikes! Sounds like it could be the quality of the wrench.
