Condolences to family and friends of the rider who passed away in UCSC today (just past Twin Gates on the Wilder side). I saw the EMT's, Fire Department and Deputies working on him so I just stayed out of the way. I heard later that he didn't make it. Seeing that makes you think about how one rides and the risks we take every time we throw a leg over the bike. Needles to say, the rest of the ride was mostly chill. Also, the obligatory bike and truck pic.

Was this right on the fire road (it looks like Longmeadow from the fire truck photo)? Or off on one of the single tracks to the east? I was home doing chores but I rode up there just a few days ago … sad news.

It's only about 1/4 mile as you cross into Wilder from Twin Gates. Right where the fire road splits into two. Tragic.

No details yet. It was on a legal fire road part of trail that is not technical at all.

Back in ‘08 when I built up my Titus Motolite I got more into running trails at night and was dissatisfied with the vis provided by my Vistalite set but at the time Lupine was in$ane so I converted my VL’s to led and was stoked. FF and now all the nightsticks are toast so I’m currently in the process of both making some new VL mods and switching over to liion’s. Anyone else play with this stuff or am I flying solo here? Back then I spent a fair amount of time both at CPF and BLF((if you don’t know, it’s flashlight geek world). Not interested in buying new since I have parts for a dozen lights(housings, lenses, reflectors, drivers, switches, cells, yada yada). Just curious if anyone wants to swap ideas or needs help with solutions.

No issues with the tailgate down on a 24+ with a 1Up, plenty of clearance. I’ll snap a pic next time I’ve got the tack on the truck.

Thanks again for the beta…we did three days at Carvin’s from Bennett Springs and an afternoon at explore park trying to get a sense of the XC course. Dirt seems perfect, weather was great. Legs are toast. Mission accomplished.IMG_5755.jpg IMG_5763.jpg IMG_5766.jpg IMG_5760.jpg

Yuuuppp. No movement on mine at $4500 at a damn near new build with high end stuff. Maybe the tariff wars might help resale?

I do wonder if the tariffs are going to change the market. If parts are getting more expensive, prices HAVE to go up.
Shimano is all Japanese, some SRAM is imported, most frames are made in Taiwan and some in Canada, Schwalbe is German... I mean, lots of parts are US made, but they are usually pretty expensive anyways.
I'm not sure, but if tariffs hold, I think in a few months time things might swing the other way and get expensive again. Then again, who knows. Things are extremely unpredictable and businesses can't make any plans with the way things are changing.

Anyone in here go from an earlier Garmin Fenix (say a 5 or a 6) to the Fenix 8?

Got some questions for you if you did.

I was hoping the tariffs would help, but not even a message for mine and it’s cheapest on Pinkbike. I could keep it, but it’s more so taking up space and I bought a V2 insanely cheap combining a bunch of coupons and gift card sales from Thunder MTN.

Here’s a pic of it 140/150 and then changed it to 170/170.

Also let me talk good about two companies that treated me really well recently.

Manitou send me a new CSU after I sent them a video of my fork creaking asking if they thought that was the issue or a bearing issue. This was on a secondhand fork, I know I’ve bought a ton from Haye’s, but still. I took this opportunity to do a complete damper bleed.

    IMG_4722.jpg

Secondly E13, I haven’t checked my crank bolts on the ebike as I’ve never thought about replacing them, they’re 160mm and I see no need. Well last Thursday the bold fell out and stripped my crankset. When E13 got back Monday from sea otter that sent me a new set out. Didn’t damage the motor shaft at all.
