Which tire for a “working” Tacoma? C or E

I haul a boat all of the time.
I’ll haul my travel trailer 10 times a year.
I’m on backroads(fire roads/off road) frequently.
Commute very far on curvy highways from job to job.

I’ve been running Open Range a/t 265/75/16 C rated but getting only maybe 35k before they’re turned in for warranty credit.

Should I stick to C or get E rated? I’ve never used E rated before and just got the travel trailer.

 

There are basically no options for C load in that size, so ya may as well embrace E load.

 

If ride quality is important stick with a C or
SL depending on your use of course

 

I swapped my winters (P-XL) to my summers (LT-E) 2 days ago. Adjusted the tire pressure on the summers this morning.
Identical size 265/75/16.

Drove for 4.5 hours this evening, and really like the feel of the summers more. Slightly more braking effort required, but the ride feels firmer, and I feel the road more.
The LTs run at a slightly higher pressure, which mitigates the extra mass as far as fuel consumption goes.

Just realized that by doing a tire search. Looks like my Open Range's are about one of the only C loads in that size.

You are going to hate pulling a trailer on an E tire. I hate pulling my popup on my C tires.

Do elaborate. I tow on E rated numerous times a year and have seen no notable draw backs from even back when I had SL's on

But I do know the correct answer to that is "C"

 

As someone who has Es, Id recommend them for rugged peace of mind. However, they are stiff and heavy sumbitches that will thrash your MPG if that's something you remotely care about. The downside of C load tires is availability. Seems pretty much all of the popular options are SL or E with nothing in between, though a few exceptions apply.

 

Yeah, killers of MPG and ride quality! But saying that, I still love having them for my setup. Definitely not recommended for everyone.

 

No the message was clear. We should be putting R comps on these trucks.

 

On my SLs I could get 15 mpgs all day long, bed loaded and full water tank on the trailer. On my C pizza cutters I get 11-12 fully loaded and towing. Most notably the Cs are a bit more sluggish on the on-ramp and they are much quicker at heating the brakes on the off-ramp. E loads would be even worse.

 

SL’s all day Death Valley trip no issues. Went through 2 sets of geolander g003 MT’s. So glad I made the switch.I slashed inner side wall on the geo’s on a trail. Daughters boyfriend on stock tires no issues. Just depends really. Ride quality to me is important on and off-road

 

What about Dynapro and Duratrac? I know for sure they used to be available in C-load in that size. Is that no longer the case?

 

I chewed up my SL coopers in 2 years, my current 10 plys have survived wild abuse on service roads for 4 years and still have lots of life left.

10ply has its place, just not highways.

 

Using Cooper AT3 E now and others in the past . No flats on gravel any more.
