    WTF!!! When did that happen?

The roads (and condition) are always a great "filter" to keep the unprepared out - unprepared for the environment and unprepared to follow the rules.
If you pave it today, they will expect bathrooms and running water tomorrow, then they will want a Starbucks, and oh let's put in a Target so we can get matching bath towels while we are out camping.

They paved the road all the way back to Spur Cross about 7 years ago and now the number of people that go missing there during the summer is shockingly high.

Back about two years ago the daughter and I were stopped out west of Prescott while off-roading one summer. We had pulled over for a bio-break, snack and walk the dog. Game warden came up to chat us up. Very friendly and non-confrontational. Her main concern was if we were hunting. We were armed but not hunting and it was pretty obvious. Then she ran through a checklist of items. "Do you have water and how much? Do you have an ax or saw? Do you have first aid? Do you have tarps / shelter / shade? Do you have a fire extinguisher? Do you have recovery equipment?" We checked all the boxes. She was genuinely appreciative and said that her second concern was if people were prepared to be out here and if we were aware of the fire restrictions that were in place. We were. So she asked if we had contact with anyone else that day - we said no. She went on her way.

I know it's not the GW's job but I did appreciate that they are out there checking on people and raising awareness.
Any government overreach is too much overreach but when they are there to SUPPORT the citizens and enable them to enjoy our public lands, that makes me feel good.

I dont know when it happened. Had a employee who went out the last weekend and came back and told me about it. Was just as shocked as you.

And agree with the over reach of the govt. But in supporting and not just out to ticket and mess with people is welcomed.

It's the Aravaipa Canyon wilderness area. At the end of rug road or Klondike road.

That would be extending the pavement already in place from Woods Canyon Lake past the 9350 Campground and off along the rim.

Yeah thats what I am assuming. I havent been back there in years because it was already to congested. Last time I went back there I drove to bear canyon lake and just saw the amount of people and the garbage laying around and it broke my heart. So I just stopped going completely. I am only reporting about the road from what one of my employee's told me.
