    That's a tough one, Smiley is definitely not real name. If you can figure out which county she was born in, you could get a copy of her birth certificate, that should have her parents real name on it. Dig through wherever she kept important papers or in old photo albums and you might find a copy of it in there.

    I actually know a Smiley but 100% its his nickname
    :laugh: Good thing you never got lost as a kid and had someone ask "well, lets find your parents - whats your dad's name?"
    nope. first name.

    I'm thinking its a real name. I found both parents on Find A Grave and his headstone shows Smiley there no quotes as you would expect with a nickname unless thats a more modern practice. And it also showed that he was a WW1 Army vet so I found a draft record for Smiley as well. So looking more and more like his name really was Smiley.
