Mods should be based on how you use the truck to make it better for you.

Instead of just rolling a grenade into the room, consider asking about something specific.

Do you live in salt country? Proper frame protection would be #1

    Followed by paying it off.

In between, wax your door jambs.

Rough Country neoprene seats to protect the cloth. Tailgate lock from @christian06 ($40) or Sabellco ($100) to kep your tailgate from being stolen. Catalytic converter guards. Replace the H11 low bean bulbs with H9 ... just need to remove the green insert.

The rest depends on your use. If you find you want to rock-crawl, steel skid plates. If a pavement princess, just a TRD Pro aluminum engine plate for sufficient protection on gravel roads and parking lots.

In short, aside from the opening suggestions that are common-sense, learn how you will use it first.

I'd suggest driving it for at least a couple of months before anything.

I've spent a few dollars on the truck but a good bed mat has been the only "must have" if you don't want contents sliding around back there.

And a $50 "stall mat" from Tractor Supply Company ... 4ft by 6 ft, cut to fit the bed. Less $$ than OEM Toyota bedmat and TSC has them in stock all the time.

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
Soft splash guards I can recommend in addition to everything been listed above.
Also tonneau cover (Bak Flip MX4 works great) and sound system upgrade - all speakers replacement, adding amps and subs.

Whatever you do don't do any electrical mods that require splicing wires! You will end up in the nightmare from hell.IMO
Plug and play i guess OK.

VLED taillight conversion solutions have resisters to re-balance the system, and their entire solution just plugs into the existing harness. No splicing.

Honestly, the best few things I've done to my 2017 SR5 Tacoma has been 1. Remote vehicle starter. No more going out to start the damned thing in the 11 degree morning here in Northern WV during the Winter. The 2nd best thing I've done is a combo job, brand new 245/75/r16 stock ass sized Tayo Open Country AT III in conjunction with a soft roll up tonneau cover for the 6' bed. I consistently average 22mph in town, and 25mpg on the highway set at 60mpg. Lastly, I've added Clazzio seat covers, along with Husky floor liners and couldn't be happier all around. I do plan to add the Lexus front diff drain plug along with the fill plug, and plan to keep up with and perform all my own maintenance. Never was interested in lifting it to high heaven, or adding 5k with of suspension upgrades and climb up the side of a mountain. Possibly adding some LED OEM headlights and harness down the down would be Nice. Might order some black out emblems as well and lose the SR5 grille, for the PRO grille with matching Barcelona Red lettering on the TOYOTA badges, might even grab some matte black rear bumper covers as well? Always have some little ideas floating around. Lots of fun little things out there to really make these trucks your own and personalize them however ya really want. Adult Legos some might say?

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

The truck is 9 years old, I would change all the fluids including brake and coolant unless you have proof they were done already.

Inspect and protect the frame from rust.

A bed mat is very useful.

These trucks have crazy sensitive electrical systems, always disconnect the negative battery terminal before doing any electrical work - including "just" changing the map light bulbs. Many folks have had a tiny spark turn into a big repair bill.

Drive the truck for a few months (or longer) before modding anything, let your observations and actual needs dictate what you purchase rather than just buying stuff. In stock form these trucks are quite capable often only needing a better set of tires.

Not a modification, but just usable tools ...

Viair 88p tire-air compressor that connects to the battery instead of the DC plug in the cabin, about $100. And a NOCO GB40 to boost the battery in case of emergency ... also to help others who do not care about their battery ... about $100.

    1. enjoy it
    2. change fluids, maintenance, etc
    3. have some sort of non rubberized undercoating sprayed yearly (or depending on location)
    4. paid-for mod was the most satisfying for many/most including myself
    5. explore stock capabilities, no need to make it look more aggresive as no one pay attentions,,, literally no one pays attention! and might rear-end the damn thing which often bends the frame (totaled). so choose wisely.

Oh come on! You just have to put a big ol 6 to 8 inch lift on right away! Body lift is a must and Rough County is the only way to go. Make sure the tires stick way out and dual exhaust is important. Lots of chrome and a sticker that reads Ass,grass or gas nobody rides for free
