Hmmm. Thought it was supposed to automatically lock the truck when out of range. At least that's what the dealer told me. Can't get it to lock tho, so you might be right.

there is a timer you can set in the settings to automatically like it like that, but I've been using the handle method just for piece of mind and so i dont get the app notification that the doors are unlocked.

Still working through the manuals. Dealer intro was a complete blur.

Option 1. Open Garage door from Tacoma rear view mirror homelink programmed button.
Option 2. Use the keypad on the garage door opener
Option 3. Use my smartphone to unlock garage door.
Option 4. Use the keypad on my front door.
Option 5. Use my smartphone to open front door.

    Welcome to 2025 :)

My garage door does not have a keypad, nor my front door. I always have to remember to take my keys with me or I'm screwed if we have a power outage as we did a few weeks ago.

Yep greatest ever. No more keys at all. This card is in my minimalist wallet "Code 118". I have about the same 4-5 ways to still get in the house/garage as you. Everything is all automated with one manual key hidden to still get in the house in case the shit hits the fan and entire house is out of power. People can't believe a 55+ guy like me has the entire house running on Apple Home and Siri. You can call it lazy, I call it the future.

The best thing I have is one touch on my iphone (shortcut) in the morning that opens the garage and starts the truck to warm it up while I make my coffee.

We've had a credit card key since we got my wife's 2021 Lexus NX, so my Taco makes two. Wish there was a way to carry one card key for both vehicles, which would be cool, but you can't double program Toyota fobs I'm told by the dealer (of course!). I really only drive the Lexus when I'm shuffling cars around the driveway, but it'd be cool nonetheless. Be interested if anyone knows of a hack...

Can you make your phone the key for your Lexus like you can the Tacoma?

Not for that gen Lexus. The lexus uses the same app as the Taco (both vehicles appear in the Toyota app and in the Lexus app as they're on the same account), but the app key feature didn't hit the NX until the next gen launched in 2022. NX is really a rav4 but it's a year or two behind in the redesign cycle and when we bought it was actually cheaper that a simlarly equipped rav4.

Not sure how others get on but I find the phone key a little fussy. Sometimes I need to force quit and restart the app, which can take 30 seconds - an eternity when I just want to unlock the car and jump inside.

    Bummer.

I can’t wait to buy my wife a newer car I can use a phone key with and leave even my wallet at home.

I'd manage with the phone key on the Lexus if it had that feature as Im generally only moving the Lexus to snow-blow the driveway or shuffle cars so someone else can back out. Carrying two credit card keys in one wallet is is too much. I need a little bit of wallet space for actual credit cards!

I believe the truck must have a premium package for this card key option.

I like the concept, a little surprised I didn’t get one considering the cost.

Do we know if the card is a candidate for future plug n play, if we don’t already have it?

It could’ve really screwed me up once because I had it in my wallet while working along with my keys one night when my wife was out of town. I left work at 10pm and drove 45 minutes home only to discover I left my keys at work which included my house key. Had I not hidden a key outside my house I would’ve had to drive 45 minutes back to work, then another 45 minutes home to get in my house. Ever since then I make sure I just have one or the other

And it requires cell signal to work? i.e. Can't unlock the truck in a deep underground garage or overlanding off-grid?

For me, I've been using the phone key exclusively for the past month and it's been solid. I like not having to carry any keys.
