Its a start, we were all promised 90 days...
Was told "we have to give you a reply within 90 days"
Then it turns into theres only 2 of us working these claims through-out the US & 1 is out on leave.....
    Be patient....
Just keep driving it, it will happen....
They will tell you, you will be on the hook for a "usage fee / wear & tear"
I told them, im not paying any usage fee & if we have to start over with an attorney toyota will be paying for, im ok with that....
They waived the fee but 3500 miles it would have been $40....
But my mindset was I didnt fuck up painting the truck, im not paying for shit.....

another tidbit of info which may not apply to you...
If you bought the truck at a distant dealer,
When "Sedgwick" calls you to arrange the transfer, it can be an the nearest dealer regardless of where it was purchased.
If you took the "snowplow" off, play it safe & re-install it if you kept it.
If you tossed it, I dont force it being an issue...

The people inspecting the vehicle aren't toyota people, theyre 3rd party transfer company, they quickly look it over for large dents & scratches bigger than a credit card....
They have someone from toyota quickly check to verify no codes stored in the computer system..
Hand you a check right there on the spot.

Took 3 of us, 6 months start to finish if I remember correctly, you would have to look through my thread to know for sure...
But at this point, im sure they have dealt with 100's of these buyback paint issues, maybe its more streamline now....

Keep calling, pushing, asking for your claims rep to give you an update...
They usually call you back within a few days...
    Squeaky wheel gets the grease....

You dont accept anything but a buyback.....
After they give you a check, the loan isnt fulfilled for a week or 2, paperwork processing bs.....
    So theres that....

I hope you have a good resolution. After they settle, please ask the highest muckie muck you have contact with why we're two years into this generation and they're still putting out crap paint jobs in Mexico. They either don't have quality assurance or they don't care about the customer. There's no third choice.

I personally think theres no easy fix for them at the assemble level....
They ship them regardless of what they look like & repair at the dealer level after customer complains...

My dealer does warranty paint repairs all day long....

I hope for the OP's situation the defects aren't just isolated to the hood only......
That might prompt them to offer him a repaint....

My neighbors truck wasnt just the hood, front fender, front door, bedside, etc...

Its your job to make them aware what panels are effected, dealer may have tunnel vision & just going off of only what you initially told them....
I initially didnt see the defects on all my panels, but I went back, made them aware, & documented on an open repair order, also called corporate & made them aware, sent my own pictures...

HAS TO BE DONE OR THE OUTCOME MAY BE DIFFERENT....

What ball is rolling? A buyback ball, or a repaint ball? What state are you in?

I'm guessing he just got a case number and they haven't decided on a course of action until they examine the truck.

Paint is fucked up on the sides and hood. Live in California. Got a case # and contact with Toyota Corporate. Little over a week from taking it to the dealer.

youre on the right path, turn-off the noise.....
by the time its done, if you still want another tacoma toward the end of the year dealers will be way more negotiable, $5500-$5700 off msrp, assuming interest rates will still be heading in the right direction for us.....
It will be a win, win, 100% no doubt...
As stated I helped a guy on here who had a limited black one where his fender flares were painted, he didnt like the sheen & texture of the paint, buy back complete....
I still stick to my guns, longevity, silver doesnt hold-up......
Let alone toyota paint being the weak link to begin with, its the wrong color to hold up long term...
I always see fairly newer Toyotas out here in San Diego in silver, where hoods & roofs are toast, oxidized, striped-out, faded, wasted clear coat....
Ive fell for it, my 00 expedition is silver, paint is toast....
Dont get me wrong, the silver is sexy, but I dont just hold on to $45k trucks for a few years & move-on, needing the next latest & greatest..

Ive tried to convince myself to get a silver one after my buyback,
Reached out to my 3 longterm body shop managers where I worked, tried to get their green light...
Didnt happen, told me I was nuts for even considering....

Obviously this isnt a longevity issue, its a application issue, you said to me next truck will be white, here's your free shot....

When the rep calls you, spell it out, you want them to buyback the vehicle, will not accept anything but....

This is somewhat reassuring, although I wonder how widespread this situation is across all models built in Mexico -- or from what I read, at least the Baja plant.

I always thought the white paint was particularly susceptible but had no idea about silver.

Sorry to see this nightmare unfold. I had this very issue with my 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTi.

The dealer kept taking it to a body shop and they kept trying to just "fix" the problem, but its a base coat problem.

My resolution was them buying back my car, but only after getting corporate involved. I suggest you do the same thing truly. Be persistent and show them pictures. Do not bother with the dealership, they will try to kick the can down further and " help you as much as they can"

What helped most was parking under a good ol' orange street light (you know the standard issue ones that make everything orange) it'll highlight the base coat being the problem. The metal used or prep may have been an issue from what I was told but who's to say.

Hope it all works out !

EDIT: I see you already got corporate involved, sorry for my rambling! glad they're on it , just be consistent and ask for when they will call back, and if they don't, call the day after and insist on communication. That gets the ball rolling.

Its funny you say that about the street lights, I was like WTF first time I looked at my paint in the dark in parking lot street lights....
Where dealer bodyshop color sanded my door looked like absolute dog shit......
Took more pics, send emails to corporate, just kept pounding on them....
Buyback is the only answer on a $45-$50k truck, make it their problem.....

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Keep the pressure on the buyback. It’s the only way Toyota will act to fix this issue… otherwise they’ll just keep putting out crap paint.

It's like the metallic's weren't mixed up enough before spraying and or there were issues with how it laid down when sprayed.

edit: I've never been a fan of silver vehicles in general, but it does pop a lot more in the sun than grey.

Looks like I'm another victim of the bad silver paint. Never noticed when I bought it. Never noticed when I washed it many times since October. But when I stood on my balcony today and looked down, I saw it!! This is a drag. I bought this truck after having to Lemon Law my 2023 RAM 1500... now it looks like I'm gonna have to go through all of that again!?!TruckHood.jpg

It appears to only be the hood. I wonder if a possible warranty fix could be having a new hood sprayed at the factory and shipped to dealer for replacement. Hate to go through buyback just for hood paint!

It seems so far that all the CSM Tacomas with paint issues are coming from the Baja plant.

I’m pretty sure all Toyota will offer you is a hood repaint. They may need to blend into your fenders to get it to match properly.

Top Dog is right. They'll offer a hood repaint and to make it match the clearcoat only will have to be applied to the fenders as well. As thin as this paint is, you might actually come out better with the hood repaint assuming you have a good painter doing the work. There's no way you'll get a new hood with factory paint. They're not set up for that. Why would you want factory paint anyway.
