I recently picked up some used 3rd-gen Tacoma rims and tires, I'm running them at 40 psi compared to when I was running about 32 psi. I believe the TPS is connected to my truck, but now my tire pressure light is on, saying that the tires have too much air. Is there a way to reprogram them?

3rd gen sensors won't work on 2nd gen trucks, you have to use your original sensors or get the sensors for your truck and have them programmed.

The pressure threshold reset button is on the knee bolster under the steering column.

From my understanding, I was told that the TMPs run off the same frequncy between 3rd gen and 2nd gen. What would the TMP's dash light look like if it weren't connected to the tires?

As far as I'm aware you can't use 3rd gen sensors on a 2nd gen.

The light would flash first and remain on if it can't read one or more sensors.

Is there a way I can make my truck a dual-channel so it can read both the 3rd gen and the 2nd TPMS? Also, the TPM light didn't come on for almost an hour from travel time from when I switched the tires. Thank you for the help.

This is correct, 3rd won't work on a 2nd generation

I have 3rd generation TRD Sports on my 2nd generation. It required a second set of 2nd generation sensors. I switch back and forth with my original wheels and that requires a reset each time. There's no quick work around

So I would have to install 2nd sensors into my 3rd-gen rims? I was thinking that there's a way to have the truck pick up on the 3rd gen sensors, after all, I think they're in a similar frequency range.

Upon some more research, it says that the 2016 TPMS are at 315 MHz and the 2013 (the year of my truck) are also 315 MHz.

if you have to ask, the answer is no. It would require custom hardware, software programming to add a dual channel radio to your truck and then the software to send a signal to the truck as it expects.

yes, you need to get sensors that work with a 2nd gen.

if you REALLY want sensors that will work with both 2nd and 3rd gen, I recommend the Autel dual channel ones:
    https://www.obdprice.com/products/4pcs-autel-1-sensor-315mhz-433mhz-2in1-tire-pressure-sensors-tpms-sensor

THESE COME UNPROGRAMMED, so factor that in. If you don’t know how to do it, you’ll have to buy an expensive tool or find a shop to do it.

JasonLee, you had a post saying that the 3rd gens just need to be reporgmaed for them to appear, is that still true? You also have another post saying the opposite

3rd gen are 433Mhz..you'd need programmable dual frequency sensors to be compatible with both generations. Buy a set of 2nd gen and have them installed

I have fixed that incorrect information from 2018.

    this is correct:

New sensors cost about the same as a tank of gas. They aren't expensive nor hard to install. You're driving a 2013. Sensors typically last 7-10 years, you're already past due on buying new ones.
