Anyone also notice a subtle vibration through the steering wheel almost as if the engine is lugging due to the transmission being in too high of a gear? It tends to happen driving at speeds of 80km/hr to 90km/hr.

You might find that more common using ECO mode where it will favor higher gears. You will have a different experience when using Normal or Sport modes.

I’ve noticed it in both Normal and Eco mode which is the surprising part.

Slight shudder under light throttle, similar to being in a gear too high. Noticed it early, disappeared after break-in. Either I subconsciously altered my driving to it, or more likely, the computers adapted to me.

If someone is considering purchasing a hybrid, just know that there’s a lot going on here, with associated noises and some vibration that can easily be interpreted an issue. The hybrid is awesome, but I can only imagine what someone trading a 2012 4.0 on this might be thinking.

Looking back at the amount of new owner complaints that just D4S created in 2016 (ticking, clean cycle..) should’ve informed Toyota that introducing hybrid powertrains to your most conservative group of owners would require some education at the dealer level. That hasn’t happened b/c too often we just hear, “normal”. Well, probably it is, but maybe not, so for an extra 3 grand, we shouldn’t have to debate it on owner forums. It’s still early, so not too late to see Toyota get in front of it instead of reacting all the time.

I don't mind the whirling noise at low speeds when the electric motor kicks in. I think its cool and given that i've driven tesla a handful of times, I am use to it. My unease issue is when the motor transitions from Electric to Gas there is quick vibration.
Kind of like the traditional off/on of the engines in todays car. It isn't smooth and seamless like some people are reporting or maybe my truck with 600 miles on it has an issue. Similar to many others who are experiencing the same.

Ah yes, the second gen Tacoma, the world's smoothest vehicle with the world's quietest engine.

I hear what you're saying, and I loved my 2012 Tacoma, but it was far from a refined vehicle.

This is my first Tacoma Hybrid (Pro), but I have had 3 other Toyota Hybrids for about 13 years. I love the Hybrid concept and find the Tacoma Hybrid works just fine. Toyota knows Hybrid better than anyone and having it in a truck gave them a challenge that I believe works very well.

I have a 25 TRD Pro. First 2 tanks were 13.5 mpg and now up to 16.1 driving like grandpa. Not crazy about the 2.4 but love the truck.

how many of you guys use the brake hold feature? the switch behind the parking brake switch. i have found that it kinda works like a tiny launch control! if you have brake hold switch on and shifter in s8 so engine does not shut off , then kinda stab it when you want to go its kinda like a tiny brake torque before it launches.

Changing gears a little: Aside from the electric motor and hybrid battery, what other significant differences exist on hybrids only?

    - Larger regenerative front brakes
    - 18" wheels instead of 17" wheels
    - Larger drive shaft
    - No auto start/stop button (instead only a "Ready" dash indication)
    - Fixed rear seat bases

    Other differences?

I think the rear bed outlet is 2400 watts vs 1200 watts? And of course more power!!!!

vs 400w. no alternator. rear seat bottoms do raise. just have to remove 2-3 plastic push pins. 12v battery is under drivers seat. a/c -heat work with engine off because vehicle has electric a/c compressor.
