I don't plan much after the past couple days excitement

Probably will change the oil on the Camry. It only has about 2500 miles on the change, but it has been 6 months and was in there through the winter. Direct injection makes the oil a little funky during the winter. Might as well, oil is cheap an A25A engine is not...

If my boss orders stuff from McMaster Carr by 5 pm it's here the next day before 10 am.

I try to get to work about 6:50 (ish) in the mornings and here lately the packages from there have been sitting beside the door already.

I woke up at 4:15 this morning and remembered I forgot to put clothes in the dryer last night so I got up and did that. Laid down on the couch and couldn't go back to sleep so I started the coffee pot and got ready and came in early so I can go see the Mac tool buddy to measure a thing he wants me to make for his wood lathe.

I got to work at 6:15 and McMaster's package is already here.

McMaster sets the gold standard for service, when you call them they:

    1) answer the phone
    2) know what they are talking about
    3) keep their word about getting back to you if needed

If the items were in stock the NJ location I had them next day via UPS Ground, Chicago was 2 days.
They saved the day many times over the years.

Love me some McMaster! I'd rather order from there than Grainger, but we order mostly from Grainger. McMaster's online catalog is so much easier to navigate than Grainger.

Ours come from Georgia, 99.9999% of the time we have it next day.

Grainger always seems higher on most stuff. We rarely get anything from there.

Somewhere along the line someone must have bought someone a boat or something as we are supposed to order mainly Grainger.

And while it's not my job, I do find cost affective alternatives for stuff and they order that instead. So many different parts I've found can be sourced cheaper for the same thing.

    Agree!
I always found the telephone experience lacking as well, fine if you just want to order something but they don't have the ready access to specifications like McMaster does - they don't understand them either.

I see Grainger as kind of the industrial version of The Mart.
Lots of import stuff of OK quaility -- McMaster doesn't sell any crap products.

I think their big strength is having brick & mortar stores that stock things trades need in a hurry -- and the fact that they have lots of advertising.

Grainger does have Baldwin oil filters so that's a plus :D

Ordered a filter and a couple quarts of 10w30 synthetic Valvoline for the boss's golf cart. It was $12.14 a quart o_O

Customer brought this "wide 5" wheel in and ask me to make him an adapter plate so he can balance them out of 3/8" thick steel with a 3 1/2" hole in the center.

Did a quick search and found this info......

"The '36-39 Ford had the "wide five" bolt pattern, the actual bolt pattern is 5 on 10 1/4 and it is also easily identified by just looking at it. All the normal cars and pickups had 16x4's, but the ones that had the V8-60 engine had 16x3.5's. The hubcaps on these wheels are held on by clips. In 1936 only, the heads of the rivets that hold the hubcap protrude from the mounting surface and the back of the rim. These wheels MUST be used with drums that have a recess for the head or they will not mount flush."

He said this was his spare. He needs to look on Ebay, there are some decent ones on there for not a lot.

I was thinking a little sandblaster work would make quick work out of it. It would need some kind of thin coat of autobody icing to smooth out the pitting. I'm a little OCD when it comes to that so it would drive me crazy o_O
