my question/concern regards these headlamp housings...

    20250423_061528.jpg

    20250423_061540.jpg

i do not know what the issue is or was with the burnt lens on the turn signal drl area, both sides are like this.

did Toyota have an issue with this?
was it ever corrected with newly designed issued part?
so that if i instruct body shop to get OEM housings this issue will not ever occur again?

if this burnt and cracked issue was not ever corrected will aftermarket replacement housings be the best course? and will aftermarket housings not have this burnt issue or what direction is best practice

Just buy a SET of new ones. They really aren't that expensive.

I'd imagine the other side is frosted a bit also so replacing both makes sense.

    ^^^ This!

Those headlights could have used replacing before the accident.

I’d say replacement Toyota Gen 2 headlights are a good deal for a safety-critical system. Many dealers will give around 30% discounts online. Don’t be tempted to be cheap and buy knockoffs — they don’t last and the optics suck. Stay with OEM.

this is going to be insurance claim (500$ deductible) with the bumper cover damaged, fender flare trim and actual 1/4 panel damaged and any other unknown damages yet to present themselves after i get it evaluated estimated

thank you for the safety critical issue and optices in case they wish to push use aftermarket housings

do you know if the burnt cracked plastic issue was resolved or do the replacement parts still do this?

I believe there’s a TSB on the headlight lens melting issue, and that it’s long resolved. Others will have the details readily at hand I’m sure.

You can get some decent headlights on eBay/Amazon for about $60. Make sure you seal them with silicone before installing, only takes an hour or so.

I hate to say it, but I did some similar damage to mine by running into a parking lot pole and the damage looked very much like yours. I was being nice and forgot the pole was there. My fault, so didn't turn it into an insurance claim. It cost me about $2500 to get it fixed. New headlight, bumper cover, paint for the bumper, a clip for the fender flair, and the part between the bumper and headlight was not damaged. They did a paint-less dent removal on the fender so I have the original fender and paint.

At least the hood doesn't appear to be tweaked at all and maybe not the grill

How much is that bumper cover at MSRP? This taco has all black trim including black rear bumper

We're lucky, I found the work order. FRT Bumper Cover 52119-04040, $287.43.

I believe that means that if you buy a new OEM housing the issue has been been corrected and the problem will not be present in the new unit, you just can't get them for free anymore.

    Ok, quick question here
It rained early this morning before I could tape up the brokeness
Pool of water now sitting in the bottom of the headlamp housing
Is this going to be ok to drive without any potential electrical issues before the body shop can get it in for repairs

As long as it stays at the bottom yes, my old Odyssey had about 4" of standing water in the taillight at any given moment but they still worked fine. Tape it up first chance you get to make sure more doesn't get in though.

The 2011 made the blinker into a DRL with an incandescent bulb, the always-on hot bulb melts the housing. Replace it with LED (and address the hyperlfash) and you'll be fine. You should have a pretty easy time finding a take-off oem headlight set on FB marketplace.

So the Toyota tab was not a better improved housing assembly to resist this melting in the drl/turn signal spot
I have no other information on this
I do recall one of these drl light bulbs go out a few years ago and got a direct replacement bulb from the dealer to plug in

It has been stated that aftermarket non-OEM are not of like quality with the proper optics and safety, etc in post#6
