Great news. My wife’s hip surgery was a very quick recovery. Let’s hope she experiences the same. Continued thoughts and prayers.

Getting a new computer at work today. This could either go really well or be a complete pain in the ass. I’m guessing it will be the latter. IT guy kept asking me all week how to do stuff when installing all of my software. Uh, isn’t it your job to know this?

You work from home, don’t you? Is he delivering it to the kitchen, living room, or second bedroom/office?

Yes but new desktop at the office that I remote connect to. After a year and a half of fighting with him that giving me a laptop wasn’t going to work they finally built me a new desktop. All of my software is heavy on RAM and graphics and you can’t expect a generic out of the box laptop to run it. The last one they gave me crashed the second I opened the software. Everything froze and the drive and fans were working so hard it sounded like a 747 spooling up for takeoff. And that was after spending 3 days installing and updating everything I needed.

Is this the same IT guy that took the whole operation down because he didn't have the system properly backed-up?

I would love to have you on board. Unfortunately I don’t have the power to make that call.

Thank you, I am honored. However, just as the field of medicine is huge and has a crazy number of sub-fields/specialities, so it the IT field. I started my IT career working for Intel (yes, that Intel) doing support at the corporate level, on special types of servers that are based in data centers. I've never done end user, desk side type support. And all my hands on system administration experience was with Unix systems (way before Linux), and I don't have any Windows admin experience. So while I could certainly learn to do that type of IT support, no one would likely want to pay me at the level that goes along with my 30+ years experience, when I would be starting out at a "beginners" level while learning entirely new skills. Oh, and as much as I would LOVE to move to Montana.... that isn't likely to happen as long as both my wife's parents are still alive. I want her to be able to have every possible moment with each of them while she can, keep making those memories that all too soon will be all that she has of them.

My theory is that even though my last 9 years direct experience is in Major Incident Management, and all the hundreds of MIM jobs I have applied to ask for only 2 - 4 years experience, I keep getting rejected because as soon as they figure out my age and total years of IT background, they decide they are only paying at entry/junior level salary levels, and they figure I would not be willing to take such a low paying job. Or they just don't want someone my age. In all my years of working on offices, I have very rarely ever met anyone in IT that is over the age of 60 (I just hit 58 earlier this month), unless they are at the top executive level. I have literally had many HR Recruiters ask me what salary I am looking for, and when I honestly tell them what I have made in the past, they respond with "Ummmm..... this position is only paying (about 60% of that)". I even had one HR person further explain "Well, you have to understand, Major Incident Management is not a technical position, that's why this role is paying so low". That would be roughly like saying "An ER Nurse is not a technical position, anyone can do it, you don't need any training, Degrees, certifications, etc.." But most HR people are themselves not highly technical, and so they don't have any significant understanding of what the position actually entails, other than what the hiring manager gives them in the job description.

On a positive note, I got a hit yesterday on a job I applied to last month, at a former employer (that I left on my own terms, and in good standing). I have an initial interview with the HR person next Monday. And our Meeting Of Creditors for our Bankruptcy case is tomorrow. We meet with the Bankruptcy Court Trustee assigned to our case. Once that is over, the Trustee will draw up the disposition of our case, and it should be discharged in 30 - 45 days. Meanwhile, since we are surrendering our house, we are in the midst of packing up to move in with my in-laws for ???? length of time.

    Have a good day everyone.

A few years ago when I was looking for a new job before I developed the severe depression disability, I had a recruiter tell me I was too old and I probably wouldn’t be able to find a new job.

    Deja vu
When I was doing computer training, after 8 years, they told us an 18 year old could do our job.
They were looking to get rid of our position and we didn't want to stand in the way of a train coming down the tracks.
5 years later they recreated the position. Never called me
