tool box install with a bedliner

Just bought a tool box off my coworker and was wonderin if you guys know how to install it with a bedliner in. Its got 4 holes, 2 on each side of the box to attach to the bedrails. Any ideas?

 

Go to BetterBuilt.com. They make an adapter for installing toolboxes using the bed rail system. Costs like $10.

 

not the bedrails built into the 2nd gens but the actual bedrails like the top of the bed sides

 

I used j hooks, no drilling into the side of the bed, but it does bend the rim a bit if you really crank it down, or the grip clamps sold at Lowe's work good, I don't have one near me though.

how exactly do they work? do i need to cut a hole in the bedliner?

 

I just strap mine in with the ratcheting straps. Really tight and easy to pull out when you need to.

 

i was thinkin about using my tie down to loop it around the front and tighten it down but i want somethin a little more secure

 

I use the j-hooks, which I recommend to you, but I also have a factory drop-in bedliner that goes under the bed rails. I drilled holes in the toolbox to accommodate the hooks them used nuts and washers. My box is fairly light though so it doesn't take much to keep it in place.

are you guys talking about j bolts? or j hooks? cus theres a big difference

 

Sorry. j-bolts. Actually they're i-bolts that I bent into j because the store didn't have the right j ones.

also my bedliner goes over the top of the bedrails so i think i have to cut out a slot anyway i install the tool box correct?

 

I have J Bolts in mine that are pretty slick. I wish I would've used bigger washers though as I cranked the nuts down too tight and they split right through the plastic box. It's still secure but it pisses me off.

 

here is how mine is mounted but i have spray in bed liner. but should be similar as long as you cut a notch in the drop in liner as you were talking about.

Yup and only one for each side, and it holds in place just fine!

 

i was thinkin i was only goin to do one on each side also. it holds pretty well?

 

I havent had any problems with mine moving around.
