hey ski guys and gals, I don’t know much about teaching my daughter, she’s only three. I know there’s probably YouTube videos and Of course I can get lessons but that kinda takes away from some of the experience to me, not saying I won’t do that eventually but as she’s been on skis for a matter of hours I’m not hugely concerned yet lesson wise.. is there any other training aids you loved and I should have? I kinda believe getting kids started early is the greatest advantage..

the straps seemed to just keep within reach, not sure that’s really the best aid.. would also seem that teaching to link turns and stop with your edges parallel is superior to pizza French fries lol

anyways I have little experience skiing, only when I was very young, switched to single stick at like 8… any input is appreciated!

We used Copilot Ski Trainer straps with our kids. We liked them because them attach around their ankles rather than their upper body, so if you need to slow them down you aren't just pulling their upper body back. They also have an elastic section to absorb some shock.

I didn't use straps. I put them on skies and said follow dad. Its critical to have fun, without fun it's a chore like anything else. Remember your 6 so you don't appreciate just how cool it all is.

A day of skiing might be one run and a lot of hot chocolate at that age. It was for my boys. Depending on your economic status this process is hard either way.

Get them excited about snow, excited to feel cold. Excited about lines.

10 year old ripping on telemark... you don't teach them anything, they teach us

This is a marathon not a sprint

They might not be fancy but it's fast as fuck... and i guarante will make your head spin.

This was what we did when the fatties came out. Remember this ski is over 10 years old. 22 design the idea of underfoot springs were new. I didnt buy in at first. I still ride these religiously. Not because of nestaga, but the combo just works. A tank book a tank ski with flop over bindings. At the time that's what we had, now I would mount those forward with 22

    Thank you for the reply!

In my previous post I mentioned I thought that just being there was obviously the biggest thing so I am totally with you on making it nothing but fun at this point!

Staying warm and yes plenty of hot cocoa, we are already making memories so it’s checking a box either way..

no it isn’t the cheapest hobby you are correct.. luckily some of my semi local areas make it pretty doable at this age anyways for the kiddos, I’ve already experienced some drives up with only a few trips up the carpet.. I’m learning it takes mucho patience’s and a little sacrifice at times, again you are kinda preaching as they are in fact teaching me..

I appreciate your input. you and your boys (family’s of the like) are inspiring to me, if they choose to take to it, hope to also share in this specific joy with my children

My kids started snowboarding at 4 & 5 years old. They did one or two lessons which didn’t do much at all. After that I just took them on the carpet rides and had them follow me. Kids learn fast. By the end of the second season they could do moderate trails. By the third season they could do the whole mountain. Now they are 12 and 15 and I’m starting to have trouble keeping up with them.

Spring break at Whistler. Fresh snow up top, groomed ice in the shade and wet heavy in the sun coming down.

Chairlifts have been closed since last week but a bit of decent snow showed up Sunday night, maybe 3-5".
I put in 6 laps Monday with nobody else in sight. Very peaceful and quiet
