Haha. Yeah I could use an upgrade.

Something about a project like this though. I feel like I owe it to the fan to get it tuned back up. I used it for removing drywall mud sanding dust from a project I had going on, and feel like I took advantage of it, against its will.

By the way, looks like the noise was the fan hitting the motor housing, proper tightening of the Allen set screw will handle that. Thanks @RustyGreen your comments got me motivated to look into things further, otherwise I would still be looking at that thing wondering why I destroyed it. :)

So my question is, any suggestions on a replacement appliance electrical cord? This one got too hot at the plug during operation, I'm assuming it's a bad cord?

I completely understand the sentiment. I have a lots of old equipment and feel they have served so long they deserve to keep on working.

Plugs getting too hot are usually due to a loose connection or broken wires right behind the plug.

You can replace the cord end, make sure to observe proper polarity, the ribbed side of the cord is the neutral which goes to the silver terminal on the replacement plug, the prong will also be wider.

Note the wider prong on the left, it is the neutral.

You can also replace the cord entirely either using a rough service bulk cord of the proper gauge from a hardware store along with your replacement cord end or just buy an appropriate gauge extension cord and cut the female end off.

I guess I could have just replaced the plug but decided to purchase the affixed plug and wire.

Question becomes, is the wide blade wire supposed to connect to the red or green marked post in the pic of the speed switch? I think, wide blade to red post, you agree?

The original plug that came off didn't have a wide blade plug.

Here is a wiring diagram for your 1954 or later Mobilair, what is labeled orange is the yellow wire.
It looks like the hot wire would go the the red terminal.

Wow that was an excellent find @RustyGreen ! I can see myself sitting down to rewind a fan in 15 years, or, I could send off to have it rewound. Thanks for that info, wow. Built in the 50's, and still running!

Speaking of cabinets actually, I have friends moving to a new home (new to them) and they wanted a small area of upper cabinets over a washer/dryer in the laundry room. What are people using for “off the shelf” readily available cabinets? I priced and looked at both the local Home Depot and Lowe’s. We don’t have Menards local to us in MA. I’m gonna shop a bit around, didn’t know if another big retailer was a good options or if online was a popular choice. I haven’t done cabinets in my house yet so it’s a new task for me.

Wrapped up my part today. New posts aligned perfectly with the 6x6 posts on the porch and the tread reveal on the outside of the stair railings is 3" on both sides. Sweet! Nice when things come together as expected/planned. My customer is thrilled. Painters were there doing the upper porch and back stairwell.

I don't remember where my typical white cabinets in my garage came from (one of the two big box stores), but my advice is spend the extra $ for prebulit...the "ready to assemble" cabinets aren't worth the time and aggravation for the $ saved.

We spent a bunch of money on "fancy" bathroom vanities purchased from a local vendor. I installed them, then the vendors fabricator came to measure and install the counter tops... When the units arrived, they were straight off the ship, made in Vietnam. Later, we also added some cabients above our washer and dryer (replaced the old ones the previous owner recycled from something else). Ended up with a two units from HD, which also made in Vietnam... There were some minor details which were different, but I'd be willing to bet they came from the same factory...

TL;DR send it on HD, Lowes, same same... unless you're willing to get some custom made.

This isn’t a custom job or anything that needs to be extra fancy. I think the pre-assembled variety from a big box store will be fine. Just wanted to double check that there wasn’t an obvious big vendor I wasn’t thinking about! Appreciate the input.

Check Facebook for removed cabinets from remodels.

And I have Baily's discount center near me-- who are known for discount cabinets. Check locally, I imagine there's other stores that do similar

I'm pretty sure all stock ready made cabinets come from overseas and don't think there are any real "values" to be had at any big box store.

Seek out a local owned kitchen store, they will carry the same products. I have had good luck with the solid wood knock down units, if you put them together with Liquid Nails they are very solid.

Last Friday I went out to pick up a sub for dinner, when I got back home with the grub I noticed that some asshat ran over my mail box. :censored:

I was able to stand it back up good enough for the time being, but it got the gears turning for a more solid type of mount.

I salvaged 2 of the 6x6 deck beam posts 2 years ago when I rebuilt the main deck, I dragged them out of the scrap wood pile and ran the electric hand planer down each side to get a better idea of their condition. One of the had the 90" that I needed for the main post, so it was time to cut it down to length.

Sometimes you just got to do, what you got to do! Dead man to the rescue.

This is going to go 30" into the ground with rebar going through at different heights, it will stay in the ground the next time someone does something stupid.

Mission complete. Reconditioned to my liking. Power cord replaced, power washed, neoprene washers replaced, oiled, switch mount screws replaced, switch rotated 180° to correct reading of switch, primed and painted. Currently in service.
