I have it at a mechanic who specializes in Tacos. He said they did find a vacuum leak and had ordered "a grommet". I didn't speak directly with the tech so I'm not sure part they're referring. Anywho, part should be in today & we'll find out if that was it. Stay tuned!

I am very curious where this vacuum leak was found.

man, ive swapped the engine in my 06 twice and the only real issue i had was i didnt push the alternator plug back onto the alternator all the way. ended up with dead battery, serpintine belt broke, and broken supercharger tensioner. the belt and tensioner broke from trying to pull the alternator that i thought had gone bad but wasnt the case. battery charged back up once it was able to actually charge.

OP i am sorry you having to go through all this

Is it possible to have the fuel supply and return hoses swapped?

I asked this same question. He assured that they were correct.

Considering what the vacuum hoses looked like, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were.

I’d recommend adding the timing chain and associated parts along with the VVT cam sprockets to your pile of parts if you’re doing head gaskets.

I had good luck finding OEM vvt sprockets from the UAE cheap.

    here’s a listing for ~$100
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/3526111046...msEMu7SRYK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

The only reason I say this is because I tried to save $ and not replace them (230k) only to find out 1 was bad. I had to tear the front of the engine back off and it wasn’t fun

I have seen those on eBay but I feel the odds of them being fake is extremely high

    what do you think?

    they were 150 on partsouq

I wouldn't buy any auto parts from Amazon/ebay short of maybe some nicknack stuff like a washer nozzle or plastic pushpins, certainly not critical internal engine parts.
Most parts on there are fake/garbage.

    Good point.

I should know by now. I was burned by some “motorcraft” coil packs.

Would you trust the ones linked above? I only have experience with partsouq on ebay

Half the cost of legit aftermarket and 1/3 the cost of one from Toyota, high probability it's counterfeit.
