In case of a crash, seat belts can “JAM” , best to keep those knives (seat belt cutting knives) secure with-in reach. A fire extinguisher May not be as important.

Farm truck, always dirty, note I remove other things behind the knife for photo shoot. I have other things in the pocket to help secure the knife more secured.

Plus the wind was helping get the chemical closer to the fire,.... who approved these things?

When I tested one on a Hyundai we had lit off for training, I found that I had to get right up to the car to apply the product and that didn’t extinguish the fire. Luckily for me I was in protective gear including SCBA so I was willing to get closer than I would have without gear. I carry my 10 lb Dry chem in the bed next to my gear. For me its to to help save others. If its my car, getting everyone out and safe is priority one. I’ve been firefighting since 1980. I know safety comes first. Of course I still have the tin helmet I was issued back in 80 (Yes some departments still used them back then) at home as part of my memorabilia.

Has anyone tried to stuff a 2.5lb in the little spot between the rear storage compartments and window?

Like many, mine is in the bed. I considered putting it in the cab but I could not find a place I felt good about placing it when I considered having 4 adults or kids in the truck.

I'm currently storing my lil 1lb in the bed mounted to a molle panel, but due to a recent spike in break-in attempts on my tonneau while parked at stores (the joys of living in a West Coast metro...), I’m planning to start leaving the bed open. Unfortunately, having a visible fire extinguisher back there will probably just invite more attention, so I’m looking into relocating or concealing it better.

Not sure about a 2.5 pound. I have a 3lb back there and it fits perfectly. Could probably squeeze one even slightly thicker. IMG_5710.jpg IMG_5711.jpg

Thank you! I've also been looking at the kiddie ones but worry about the plastic components and cab temperatures, how long have you had it back there?

It’s been back there for like 5 years in the crazy south Florida heat. Maybe longer, the date says 2018. It’s not plastic though, the whole thing is metal. Got it at Home Depot for cheap.

AHHHHHHH, The handle is painted metal? I had assumed it was plastic as it looked similar to the First Alert 2.5lb

The engine bay is the most likely seat of any vehicle fire. For all of the hullabaloo regarding extinguishers do you all carry firefighting gloves next to your extinguisher? You will need to pull the hood latch release, then put your soft skinned hands under the hot hood to open the hot latch, then lift the hot hood and put the hot hood support rod into the hole. The fire will then probably flash with the wind blowing over it AND THEN you get to pull the pin and spray your chemical extinguisher on the fire. Good luck with the heroics. Get people away and leave it to the pros!

Half of the reason I carry an extinguisher is for offroading and camping were brush to somehow ignite and I'm a long ways from emergency services.
Thankfully I'd just have to pop the latch and somehow release the catch, after that I have struts to keep it up, Also depending on the cause, such as something electrical it would be best to attempt to extinguish it opposed to just letting er rip and potentially start a forest fire.

I ended up getting the AutoZone 2.5 lb abc extinguisher manufactured by shield since it looks durable and is refillalable, fit into the rear seat alcove fairly well, I just put some black cloth over it to mask the silver handle as well as protect the seatbelt from chafing

I can now leave my tonneau open when shopping in Portland and not worry about some junkie damaging it or the tailgate again trying to pry it open....
