Okay okay you put the jackstand under it and I'll work the jack, make sure the wheels are chocked.

    :D

What exactly are you trying to do? Change the shifter bushing? Pull the tranny? BTW that lower trim should pull straight out if you want it out of the way, the power for accessory plugs pull right off.

    thanks for the pic!
did U get done what U were after?

is there some sort of plate that covers this area of the floorboard tranny hump tunnel (whatever it called)
looks like i can use some new plastic grommets for tapping screws if i gotta disassemble to see what hackery was done to my truck and why the shifter sticker vibrates like a mofo in 5th gear in the 50 to 70 mph range

Another ? For you or anybody else that has disassembled this area.
Is there any type of insulation between this hole and a cover plate?
I swore I could feel a cold draft coming in that area this past winter on the freeway wind blowing. And I do not recall any cold draft such as that before it was taken apart and put back together

No, the rubber seal on the lower part of the boot seals it off.

Do the rubber boots just screw into those yellowish-white plastic grommets?

It has a metal plate that sandwiches the rubber boot between the tunnel and the rubber, do you not have the metal plate?

I haven't taken anything apart yet there so not sure what is under there and causing a draft
And I have a concern it was not put back together properly from the big vibrations It has been having with the shifter stick in 5th gear
    DiY troubleshooting stinks LoL

Ahh, it could be that the boot is torn or perhaps it's been pulled down low enough at the top so it isn't sealing around the sticks. It should be clear once you remove the center console.

Does it only vibrate in 5th or at certain speeds?

It is only noticeable in 5th between 50 and 70 MPh or so.. it had a big new clutch job and rebuilt r150f transmission plus other various new parts last year and has not driven well since then. It is frustrating!

Hmm. If it only does it in 5th at those speeds I wouldn't expect driveshaft issues. What vibrates? The shifter or is it a vibration you feel through the entire truck?

Yes I have tested in 4th gear at higher rpms up to 65 mph to see if it still has an issue and I don't feel or see any wobble vibrating stick like I see and can feel with hand on the stick. Truck itself does not vibrate that I can tell yet.
I sure wish I could get a video but kinda dangerous to film it and what it does while driving that fast.
When I let off the throttle in 5th the stick calms down stops shaking then throttle down in 5th at same speed it resumes shaking

My initial thought is a bad bearing, but just a thought. Are you sure it's abnormal? I get some shake in mine but nothing unusual, but knowing what is normal is tough if you don't have anything to compare it to. Unless it's really bad and starts popping out of gear I wouldn't worry much, but if you paid someone to rebuild it I would hit them up. Frankly, a proper rebuild of these transmissions with OE parts is mad expensive, unless you paid a hefty sum, I doubt it was completely refurbished.

How are your motor and transmission mounts? Fresh ones can make a huge difference.

all those mounts are original still
probably would not hurt to change the motor mounts after 28 years and 365k
if i could find a source for a new quality transmission mount i would do that as well...not having any success sourcing that from Toyota parts

i will update other topic thread regarding this issue of any changes with some new motor mounts

I can't drive 55... in 5th gear. abnormal vibrations in the shifter stick | Page 2 | Tacoma World
