Of you go with uhaul you should lie & say your moving pallets of pillows. They’re known to grill you about weight & weight ratings & refuse to rent to you.

Okay, fine. THey want to charge me more for the double load. :/ I was thinking in engineering terms; everything is specced to 3x the defined limit. Okay, another $50 it is.

    Thank you!

Yeah, going to go with two trips. I might see if I can get a trailer, but hauling pea gravel in a u-haul trailer seems prone to dribbles and irate people behind me. Maybe a tarp on the bottom.

Ayup. I figured I would ask just in case it was one of those 'It's rated for 1500, but it'll take 2500!' situations. Thanks much!

They just want to charge me extra for the second loadup. I may start searching for another place, even if it is a couple of more dollars expensive per yard.

Pea gravel?! Forget the number of trips. Rent a damn trailer.

Years ago, I went and bought a yard of gravel. Wanna know how they load it? The front-end tractor picked up half a bucket, then hovered a good three feet above the trucks cab height. He fortunately saw me waving him off before he pulled the dump lever. That would have been worse than hail damage.

I asked him if they could hand load it instead. He dumped it on the ground and said "you can find a shovel at the front office."

Since that day, I learned. Rent a trailer. It's not the material weight that will get you. Its always the yard equipment. Whether it's a front-end, bobcat, or forklift, if you like the idea of keeping your paint and fender shapes intact... rent a damn trailer. Let the blind fuckers bang into that instead.

You are exactly right. Except it wasn't they way they loaded it for me.
Yeah, they used a front loader and dumped in the bed. Down between the cab and bed an all. It was everywhere.

The worst part was the trip home. I had over 1 TON in the bed of a 96' Ford Ranger. (1.04 tons to be exact)
Every turn or curve in the road and the front wheels were squealing. The front end was loose as shit.

In my defense, I was young and didn't know any better.
My Grandmother owned a daycare. They expanded on a playground and needed pea gravel.
So I used my Dad's Ranger and "made some money". BAD....BAD idea.

I got $50 for doing it. Not doing that ever again.
Not for $50 and not in the bed of any truck.

And I blew the left rear shock on the Ranger.
I didn't know it, My dad did.....
Like I said, I was young and dumb.

Yeah that weight is no joke either. It's very easy to misjudge what your leaf pack can handle.

Throughout my career I've dealt with many hot-shots (aka equipment couriers). There are two kinds of hot-shots. There are those whose beds are thrashed, tailgates and front rails tacoed, dually fenders wailed upon. And then there are those who left the tailgate at home and pull a gooseneck trailer instead. Also, the reinforced tiedown rails on every flatbed look like they just withstood the siege of Troy.

I've seen that my entire career. So when the floors&more warehouse worker comes out with my 300 pound half pallet of laminate, the rental trailer is to the left, thanks. It's cheaper than offering to tip them to hand load it.

I've also been on the other side of things. You can't see shit on most loading equipment - it takes a very careful and slow hand to not bang into something. Most hourly folks don't have the time to be careful and slow. They have orders to fill, and couldn't care one whit about some Karen's truck. That's up to the boss to handle.

There are very few things that have a safety factor of "3" in the designs, cars/light duty trucks/SUVs definitely are NOT on that list.

Glad to hear that a trailer will do the heavy hauling.

This right here. It’s what I do. Get the $7 dollar insurance and if you destroy the trailer you’re all good. Plus if the guy loading sucks you may peas gravel poured down the side of the truck.

The pea gravel is for the bog filter and some texture in the shallow tier of the pond. 3000k gallons... ish. Here are all of the details:
