I bought a decent bottle of Ardbeg a few years back and had a hard time liking it. Maybe I'll try some of that Belvenie 12 to give it a fair shake

I think the oldest scotch I've had is a 24 or 25 yr, and it was good... but that being said I've had some 8 yr single malts that I've enjoyed just as much. I can't see myself going much past $130 especially if I haven't tried it before, but sounds like OP lucked into this one and it would just be a jealous lie if I said I wasn't interested in knowing how it is.

Ardbeg is gonna be a lot more smoky/peaty from the Islay region, Balvenie and other Speyside's are typically a lot more palatable, easily enjoyable, and have a wider variation in flavor profiles from whisky to whisky. The Glenrothes has a bunch of nice summertime scotch as well.

That's crazy... I don't plan on opening it since I know I won't be able to enjoy it like I would bourbon. I wonder if I can return it to Total Wine for store credit haha

I'm no connoisseur of whiskey, but it is really the only spirits I drink, anymore.

During the warmer months of the year this is my favorite:

During the cooler months I prefer their apple flavored blend, straight.

Never had the New Riff but I had a bottle of Bulliett single barrel and tbh was not really impressed especially @ retail, hope that one was better.

Leveled the backyard with sand, took all day. Rewarding myself with an Eagle Rare old fashioned. Pretty damn good but also sacrilege, probably won’t be mixing again but wanted to try it.
