Meh, it was real dry (for here) last year.
The damn deer were raiding peoples' gardens and orchards... including mine.

I recall reading in PA Game News about an 11 year cycle for rainfall here in Pottsylvania.
I've seen a lot of them at this point, and it checks out.
We're at the low rainfall part of the cycle.

Don't worry, these fires never amount to much, not like out West.
Besides which, the PA DNR has very sensibly encouraged firewood cutting in the State Forests for a nominal permit fee.
You're not allowed to go off road, so the forest roads are swept clean of deadwood, I can tell you, at least 50 yards each side...
    ... making perfect fire breaks.
Anyway, I'd like to see someone try to go offroad most places here, considering how rough the terrain is.
Too many boulders, too many trees, and I ain't a-kidding.

There was a fire at the Club's rifle range in 2003 or 2004 that took off and went all the way to the top of Shippen's Knob.
Then it fizzled out, all on its own.
We figured some asshole was shooting tracers
It burned the leaf litter on the ground but killed very few trees.
Mind you, this was after several days of 100 degree temps and a couple weeks of no rain.
