    Interesting info.

I was curious if the larger drive shaft might mean a different differential as well.

Also wondering if the architecture of the hybrid's ICE-motor-transmission is responsible for the Gen 4's smaller back seat.

I did not believe it till I looked in my 24. No alternator. Learn something new every day?
Next time I am in my local dealer for service I am going to ask "What happened to my alternator? It is gone!":rofl:
It will be interesting to know what Toyota says about it.

Hello all, I am a first time Toyota/pickup truck/hybrid owner with the 2025 TRD OR I just got, and I have to say I am pretty damn happy after 1 week and about 700 miles. I am coming from a 2017 Nissan Murano so the change for me is pretty nice to say the least. Looking forward to learning from all of you here.

The front or rear brakes don't provide regenerative braking, the electric motor, or motors provide regenerative braking.

Regenerative braking by the electric motors is how EVs can drive all day without using the brakes. In this way, EV brake pads can last for the life of the vehicle, or hundreds of thousands of miles without needing replacement.
Same with the rotors. On EVs using heavy regenerative braking by the electric motors, the rotors will never wear out.

Reading the thread on the toyota4g site about some 2025 hybrids with an alternator.
My take is if you have the auxiliary switches they added an alternator due to possible excessive battery drain, which leads to 2 questions:
Does anyone with a 2024 hybrid with the auxiliary switches have an alternator?
Does anyone with a 2025 hybrid without the auxiliary switches have an alternator?

    "What's New for 2025?
Changes are minor for this, the Tacoma’s second year on sale, and include the addition of front tow hooks on all models and an upgrade to the available auxiliary switches, which can now handle 95 amps, up from 30. Availability of the Terra paint hue has been expanded to all TRD models."

They added a fourth aux switch next to the three on the previous year. 95 amps total. Lots of fairy dust. Name of option package: Tinkerbell extra premium.

I'll add a few comments of my own here, from my experience owning a new '24 Hybrid Limited, 6500 miles to date.

The start/stop is very noticeable, as others have mentioned. That has surprised me because I know that other vehicles are much smoother when the gas engine starts, but I'm used to it now and it doesn't bother me (much).

For myself, the reason to purchase the Hybrid Limited vs the non-Hybrid was partially to get the additional power/torque, but mostly because the Limited Hybrid has full time 4WD, which none of the other Tacoma models have.

My gas mileage has been in the low 20's. Recent round trip from Tri-Cities (SE Washington) to Seattle airport and back achieved 21.2 mpg for the 455 mile trip, which includes quite a bit of elevation change going over mountains both ways (and driving consistently 5-8 mph above the speed limit on the highway).

The power/torque of the engine is excellent, and the powertrain overall is very smooth and really a delight to drive. I had considered purchasing a Tacoma two years ago and nearly did buy a TRD Pro, but I did have some hesitation with that models V6 and transmission, and I couldn't be happier that I waited for the new generation.

That YouTube video is not very good, the negative connection under the hood is clearly identified and is preferable, and as others have mentioned the owners manual has this information. I needed to jump start my wife's car recently and had no difficulties.

What you are describing is probably the engine restarting, not from the transmission.

So I wonder what friken hybrid package comes with the alternator and the extra fairy dust. Are those pictures with hybrids with alternators AI generated?

Totally not 100% smooth. However at 1000 miles it is either better or I’m getting used to it. however, others reported it’s seamless transition like as if they don’t notice. Which I find it hard to believe.

A couple of the earlier posts mentioned speedometer accuracy so I thought I'd add my comment to that. I also know that the speedometer of my '24 Hybrid Limited is 1-2 mph optimistic, i.e. if it is reading 40 mph then my actual speed is 38-39 mph. The area where I work has several radar speed monitors with displays and I drive by them every day and this is what I have observed. I would prefer a more accurate speedometer but knowing that mine reading a bit high is not such a bad thing, certainly better than reading too low.

Another comment to the discussion regarding rear floor mats - does anyone really use the rear seat for people with this truck?! I'm partially kidding, in my case I won't ever have anyone in the back seat (or hardly ever) so I wouldn't be looking for floor mats for the rear!

Reading the other forum I’ve gathered Canadian spec vs U.S. spec maybe. Mine is U.S.

Getting to wonder why those guys get the good stuff, like sunroofs on Trailhunters and extra Tinkerbell dust But, maybe they are the beta testers.
