Just got done installing the SXTH ELEMENT axle dump exhaust. Love working on new vehicles, so easy to get parts off and on. Looks good and no fuss.

 

Would this mod make it unsafe to sleep in the back truck? I plan to leave my hybrid on for the power outlet and wonder if the exhaust smell is intense with the outlet under the bed.

 

Engine turns on and off. There is never enough exhaust buildup to be noticeable.

Like Snickers said, I wouldn't worry about it in my opinion. I was originally concerned with the heat coming out of it damaging things around it, even the seals on the differential for example....then I remembered that this style exhaust comes on a couple models and is sold directly by Toyota, if that was a concern it wouldn't be there from the manufacturer. Then I factored in how the hybrid works and said "cool, I'm doing this".

 

But I actually trust OEM Toyota metallurgy for recovery points. Big difference.

 

Putting a carbon monoxide indicator in the bed wouldn’t hurt

 

I am not saying this as an opinion. I am saying this because I have done it. I didn't get revived by emergency services. I am still here typing.

Although I won't do it anymore because the on/off cycle interrupts my sleep. I am a light sleeper.

I did this experiment for all you young people as I am an old fart. My window is barely open and closing rapidly. You are all welcome.

Toyota says they are recovery points? Have a link to that?
