Powerbrake X-Line Big Brake fitment question

This is my first truck build, so I'm kind of learning on the fly, but I'm currently getting things together for a long travel setup on my 01. Brakes are next on the list. After a lot of YouTube and looking around online, I thought I had settled on going with powerbrake. To my surprise, their site does not offer any kits for the 1st gen tacomas. They do however offer Tundra kits.

My concern is since they are being sold as "big" brake kits. I imagine they'd be considered oversized for a Tundra in comparison with the stock Tundra brakes, and that'd likely make them too big for my Tacoma. (Their site doesn't seem to offer dimensions)

I called their US office last night and left a voicemail, but I figured I'd post here as well in the meantime and see if anyone might know.

I'm essentially wondering if the Tundra kit would fit, or if anything else they offer might fit. If not, what are some comparable options to consider? I usually try to spring for quality over cheap in general.

The common "big brake upgrade" for 1st gens is purchased piecemeal (not as a complete kit) and uses OE Tundra calipers, as described here: https://adventuretaco.com/guide/step-by-step-tundra-brake-upgrade-on-a-tacoma-or-4runner/

Are you trying to go even bigger?

 

No reason why it shouldn’t fit.

I have a Powerbrake kit on my FZJ80 LandCruiser and man those brake work extremely well, even with 37” tires.

ChargedSHOTaco - As far as that FZJ80 goes, what size wheels are you running diameter-wise?

I found a couple of local powerbrake dealers online, so I'll make a couple of calls on Monday and see what they say

 

I have 18” wheels, but 17s would have fit. The calipers on the FZJ80 stage 2 kit are massive.

Kinda crazy how someone will fork out $4k for big brake upgrade. I looked at that kit years ago before covid inflation and it was like 2/3 the price of my custom built front axle using 80 outers/9.5 centered. Be nice to have 6 piston setup but the stock 80 brakes just fine with rear disc and 42” tires. Maybe when I hit the lottery…..

Are you running the stock replacement Powerstop setup on the 80?

 

I’m running the $4K setup, with replacement calipers and rotors. I purchased it pre-COVID, still a hefty price tag, but its still one of the best purchases I’ve made for that truck.

The PowerBrake kits are engineered to work with the stock master cylinder for the application it’s designed for. You may get it to fit on your application but it may not work properly. I have found their customer service exceptional. Try giving a call to their North America headquarters and they will help you as best they can.

Thanks, I've seen the LCE's show up a lot, but I think I'm looking to get something with a 6 piston caliper. This truck has definitely been turning into more of a toy instead of a daily driver as time goes on and I'm planning to push it pretty hard.

I haven't heard back from powerbreak yet, or either of the local dealers. It's hard for me to find time for phone calls during work, and right when I get off is when powerbreak's business hours are ending for the day, but as soon as I can get in touch with anyone, I'll report back.
