That looks sturdy, but heavy. How thick is the plate on that thing, looks to heavy for most SxS?

I also introduced a new member to my air ratchet family. Extended reach 1/4" driver. It should come in handy for a few projects I've got lined on the SD.

Windy and drizzling outside, so of course I went and tore down the floppy section of fence and set some 3" drill stem as the new posts.. I'll put the fence back up tomorrow after concrete is set up. Using exhaust clamps and angle iron for the brackets

 

got my scrap taken in this morning, was tired of looking at it. made a spectacular $45!

then burned the rest of the morning taking care of some bank stuff, which always takes too long with stuffy people behind desks.


the bank trip time-suck left me in a daze/funk that sucked the motivation out of the rest of the day.

so i cracked out the riding mowers and started digging into them to at least figure out the model numbers and parts i need..

riding mowers are a whole other breed of 'safety' to me!
it's funny, the first dozen links/video's that pop up when i try to figure out the location of all the safety switches, are all about the location and how to bypass them...

the Sears started almost right away, fortunately it was put into indeterminate storage without fuel, but is missing an air filter, and a way for the crank case vent to get to the intake. but once i had it running quite a while, and ran a little seafoam through, i shut it off and now it doesn't start at all. no crank, no click of any sort. i suspect something safety switch related somewhere, or the key switch took a dump. i'm still planning on a new carb, spark plug, and oil change for it to make the best of everything. the choke doesn't work right, i think i'm missing a linkage, will likely add a separate choke control. it's the roughest of the bunch, but with it lacking a mower deck, the one i want for myself the most...

the troy-built only runs on starting fluid. the gas smelled old, and i tried dumping some new gas in to dilute the old stuff. even ran it for a while on starting fluid to try to get it to suck some new gas/detergents through the system with no luck. now the fuel leaks out through the carb, but won't run(i just learned all these carbs have an electronic shutoff through the bottom bolt, which is clearly not working here). another carb/plug/oil change.

and the ariens never even tried starting. the plug is majorly fouled, and my spark tester showed it has a weak spark. yet another carb/plug/oil change, likely a coil pack as well.

and the most expensive part, all 3 need new tires, with the troy-built and ariens having swapped a front wheel on incompatible axle shafts, so need to dig into fixing the bearing surfaces on those as well.

Mother wants a ceiling fan in her room, so I picked up everything I needed at Lowe's after work yesterday since it's only a couple miles up the road. There never was a fixture up there, right now the switch just controls an outlet, so a trip into the attic for me. However, yesterday evening I went down into the basement to grab a wobble-pop out of the fridge and noticed water all over the floor. Oh now what!? Water heater pressure relief valve decided to leave the chat and is dripping pretty bad. So I have to make ANOTHER trip back to the store, I think the Home Depot is closer. Put a bucket under there temporarily. I was planning on painting some trim this weekend, even bought the $95/gallon paint last week, but people and stuff keep changing my plans!

For trim and such I like to buy the good stuff. Walls, ehh, $25 Valspar flat or eggshell

 

That’s just wrong on so many levels.

 

I worked at a building supply that sold Benjamin Moore and was around for the rollout of that product. I think we sold it for $55 a gallon back in 2013.

It's not a "true" trim paint, but the stuff I have been using while it looks good, takes overnight for each coat to dry and takes 3 coats to cover the old wood trim even with a good primer. I want to be done in a couple days and not worry about it. I'll gladly pay the premium for that.

 

Gm recalling 877k+ 6.2 liter V8's made from 21-24 in Silverados, Sierras, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade etc...not a good sign for them.

 

Honestly pretty much every manufacture is having some pretty serious issues right now. Even Toyota is dropping the ball pretty hard.
