The only regret I have is the payments. Trucks are expensive and that sucks.

I went from a 2022 SR5 V6 to a 24 TRD Sport. I waffled on buying the 22, at first the rumor was the redesign might make the 23 model year. I do not have anything bad to say about the 22. I was not excited about the gear hunting, but I was not worried about it. I just like the styling on the 24. The powertrain is so much smoother. Is it perfect no, but I certainly did not think the 22 was perfect either. I still harbor some concern about the long-term durability, but I would do it again without reservation.

This is my situation as of a week ago. Traded in my old 2003 for a 2025. Half spaceship, half Cadillac is right! Loving it so far.

Only regret is it more expensive than my last truck... But you know what, I don't go out to eat hardly at all, take lavish vacations, etc. so fugg it I'll treat myself.

However, after two 2nd gens and two 3rd gens my 4th gen is by far my favorite. The powertrain combo is the best out of all of them. I even like the clacky, noisy nature of the turbo 4. Has enough technology to keep me entertained and safe. After having a friends 03' S10 this week (doing a couple things to it) I definitely appreciate having my truck compared to it.

By the time my Gen 2.5 dies they’ll have worked the bugs out of the 6th Gen.

Amen!...1st to 4th gen was like horse & buggy to space shuttle. I'm like what's all this sh*t beeping everywhere when I park! But zero regrets for me. Plenty of power, smooth ride, and stock 32s get me through most everything.

I had both. I hated how the 3rd gen lagged in Transmission dept. How however i loved the way it looked enough to buy it 3 times after selling it. I did end up buying a 4th gen and fell in love with how it drives. Aesthetically i think the 3rd is great. But i love my 4th gen and can appreciate it more now because I actually have a double cab again. I have a TRD offroad, but i can’t justify spending the money on it. I bought a TRD pro grille. With 2 past generations V6 and transmissions ownership, I can't imagine saying the new powertrain or interior are inferior while keeping a straight face. Some people have sadomasochistic tendencies so maybe that's it. They must like the powertrain screaming in pain while their butts and backs gets some abuse over a long trip.

Sometimes some prior gen drivers have a compulsion to tailgate, race to and from stoplights etc... Two were doing that as I was heading west through and from Denver area and a bit later on climbs I realized the 4th gen was blowing by their screaming engines while hardly breaking a sweat. I do have the better grade seating but I've also realized my gen 4 is among best vehicles we've had for staying comfortable on long drives.

The envy or jealousy is kind of WTH. Not just the generations but even with pickup brands and models.

Owned the last generation of pickup, and each generation of Tacoma. The 3rd gen was the worst, and the transmission was a joke Toyota played on its customers. The 4th gen is leaps and bounds above the others.

I'm very happy with my 2024 Tacoma Off Road. The only thing I wish it had was more standard features like the TRD side steps and bed step. :D

This is my 5th Tacoma all purchased new. With each new generation you got more power with about 1 mpg more with better suspension and a quieter interior (for a truck anyway). My 2005 trd OR had a better low end grunt than my 2016 trd sport
but the 4.0 liter had a narrow power band compared to the wider spread of power of the 2016 model minus its low end

My recent purchase of 2025 Tacoma hybrid OR is in a different class altogether with way more low end grunt with better throttle response right off the start due to that battery. Engine note sucks in comparison to the V6,s but it simply performs better overall
465 ft/lbs of torque with about the same mpg as previous gen’s ? Who’s complaining now—

In no way do i think more complexity will be as reliable as my 05 4.0 liter (best tacoma engine ever for reliability) IMO
but I got board with them after 200k and wanted something new and this new gen is a bigger and better leap than any of the
previous gen jumps could manage and Toyota owns the hybrid world right now so we’ll see…,

Absolutely ZERO regrets. You really can't compare the 3rd gen to the 4th gen Tacoma. Totally different truck and much better in most ways.
Ride is improved, I prefer the new interior and the engine is more powerful yet better economically. The looks are excellent. I know that there will always be that person that disagrees but that fine , it's my money and my opinion.

It's your money and your opinion, and the only one that matters.

I found a truck I could put a deposit on over the weekend, could be spoken for by now. It's just a XC SR 4x4, I'd be moving from a 2.7 F-150 which probably rides better, more economical, and makes more power than the Xtracab. I want the Tacoma, but trading one truck for the other does not really make sense to me. Moving from an earlier Tacoma to the latest incarnation of the Tacoma makes a lot of sense. Moving from a fullsize to the Tacoma doesn't make as much sense outside of downsizing or just wanting something different. That's not to say I dislike the Xtracab or 4G because I do.

    I just moved from a 2023 Tundra 4x4 SR5 to a 2024 Tacoma OR hybrid. Couldn't be happier.

    Regarding full-size to mid-size:

    .................Curb Weight.........HP/Torque........OEM Tow Rating.....Wheelbase

    Tundra............5,390...............348/405.................8,300...............145.7"
    Tacoma...........5,045...............326/465.................6,400...............131.9"

*Most of the above came from Edmunds, whose website allows you to select specific models/versions of each truck.

To me, the biggest drawbacks of the taco are the smaller back seat and slightly reduced tow capacity, which is obviously heavily influenced by the shorter wheelbase.

The biggest pluses are a better driving experience, more nimble, easier to park, and does not have the notorious acceleration programming lag of the Tundra's tt V6.

I have no regrets. I went from a 2nd gen TRDOR to a 4th gen TRDOR and love it. There are a few little thing I can nitpick but same for 2nd gen.

I guess maybe I'm a traitor to the 4G as I traded mine for a '22. I didn't really dislike the 4G - in fact, I loved the 4G's torque at 1700 RPMs and the steering feel. But I originally wanted a leftover new 3G when I got my 4G, and maybe that had something to do with it also.
My 4G, over 8500 miles, had racked up a few annoying small issues (rattling door panels, creaking drivers door when opening/closing, brake controller wouldn't work half the time at random, and the transmission was acting up like so many others had described on TW [yes, my VIN was in the TSB range]). There were other nit picky things that I didn't like as much either, but they weren't so bad that I would have traded the truck (I was never a fan of the 4G's chunky dash and center console design, where the 4WD selector switch was located right where my leg wanted to rest, the normal but weird noises that the 4 cyl made, hooking up a trailer required correct answers or you were stuck having to restart the cycle, and the JBL system that didn't sound that great).
Mine was paid off, but I just decided I wanted something simpler, and found a really nice CPO 3G that I'm happy with. I find, even with the leaf springs, it rides smoother than the 4G (bumps are softer vs more sharply transmitted), and that's nice surprise for a guy with a messed up lower lumbar spine. And while I miss that low end torque of the turbo, the V6 works good, and the tranny does its job just fine.
While the '22 was truly a "like new" find, it was the first time I ever went to a dealership and got money back from the dealer as I did well on the trade in...LOL

Went from a 2017 3rd Gen TRD Sport to a 2025 4th Gen TRD Sport. 4th Gen better in every way. The Turbo 4 Shits all over the Atkinson cycle V6 with crappy tranny.

I'm selling my 07 for $9000. Live in the city, can't really keep 2 trucks. But I'm going to hate that.
