Fescue is what the road crews toss in with hay after they finish a road project...water it in once and it might grow on asphalt...should get nice results.

The muffler clamps are a good idea - fast, easy & cheap!

I only have the one air gauge right now, so it's one or the other and at $40 just for the chuck I'm not buy another one just to sit in a drawer.

I have a flexzilla whip after the gauge with a quick release. I have several different air chucks… long double sided, short latch, 90, straight, etc.

Hmmm, I hadn't really thought about putting a qd on the end of the gauge hose.

You can even put it where you chose hose or not. There are plenty of connector designs and barrel types.

In 1972 the manufacturers started using the "net" (as installed) numbers versus the "gross" (Dyno) numbers used prior.

The numbers I gave were for the 390 engines used in passenger cars and mild factory hot rods.
The FE family also had 427 & 428 cubic inch models with the 428 being installed in large cars and "gentleman's performance" cars like the Galaxie 7 liter which was marked as "the quickest quiet car or the quietest quick car".

    1966-Ford-Galaxie-7-Litre-Hardtop.jpg

And then there was the 427.
These were really race engines that were available to the public producing 400 to over 500 HP in various versions. In the 60's all the domestic manufacturers were building factory race cars available to the public.

The 1964 song "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" contains the line:

"But parked in a rickety old garage
There's a brand new shiny red super stock Dodge"

That was a real thing, you could go down to the dealer and order a race car, put plates on it and drive away, what a time.
    :burnrubber:

In 1970 Congress passes the first major Clean Air Act, requiring a 90 percent reduction in emissions from new automobiles by 1975. President Nixon establishes EPA, and the new agency is given broad responsibility for regulating motor vehicle pollution. New cars must meet EPA emission standards for hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NOx).

As usual the regulators used the logic of "if it is easy to say it must be easy to do" - things don't work that way in maufacturing... :ballchain:

Auto manufacturers really didn't have much tech beyond relays & ported vaccum switches to work with.
At the same time, tougher crash standards like 5 mile per hour bumpers and door impact beams were mandated so the manufacturers were really busy as a one legged man in an @$$ kicking contest trying to comply. :goingcrazy::goingcrazy::goingcrazy:

Lowering compression and retarding ignition timing "helped" meet the new regulations at the cost of severely reducing performance and dramatically increasing fuel consumption, remember the new "safer" cars were heavier too.

When I worked time was more important than money ( ) so I often bought hardware I knew I had (somewhere  ) just to get the job done.

Now I have spent some time organizing and consolidating so I "go shopping" in the archives before I start a job, often I have all the hardware already in stock.

This afternoon/evening was service day for Mrs Greens car.
Oil change, fluids checked, tire rotation, brake inspection.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to y'all that Mrs Green is a few years past being a teenager, you wouldn't think it looking at the inside of her car however.

When I plan a pool job, I generally buy everything I need for that job even though I know I have half the parts in my truck. That way I have parts for the unexpected job.

Funny, I hadn’t heard of these before and was just contemplating the same choice.

I’m trying to think of when my straight chuck didn’t work and can’t think of any, so I’m going to go with the straight chuck. What do you recall?

If you can wait a few days, I should be getting my order from them sometime this week, if they send a return customer discount code, I’ll post it here.

In the meantime, good morning everyone, that weekend sure did pass quickly :hattip:
