I would probably do something, but not something drastic. I think a full flush will give you problems in the form of a tidal wave of crap.
I'd do the Valvoline thing and change my filter and top it off every week. I feel like that would be the more gentle, restorative process.

Through this whole thread did anyone think to recommend a used oil analysis?
Didn't occur to me until just now.

    https://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Would be good to know what the wear is like in the engine. That many miles. That much sludge. I guarantee that previous oil change intervals have been too long and probably been too hot or used for heavy duty hauling.

I also didn't see any recommendations for an oil cooler, which looking back on it would probably be a good idea to add some volume and then increase the longevity and ability of the oil to do its job - one of which is cleaning the engine and not cooking onto the surface.

    Thoughts?

I wonder how accurate it would be now that 20 year sketchy old history and loads of atf, chemicals are mixed into this Mississippi Mud Pie?

The oil cooler would definitely help.

Not many here are old enough to remember how common the old crappy parfin based oils would cook and cake up. It wasn't uncommen to pull a v8 intake and have the valley COMPLETELY packed. So much so it would leave a perfect impression of the intake bottom side in it.

I had a 71 Olds 442 with 71k on it that made the opp's look like it just drove off the showroom floor.
