I thought you mentioned something about getting dross and/or beveling awhile back

Seems like you're due for a vacay, get some progress on those projects

I need to do 3/8" aluminum and 1/2" steel.

Got everything else figured out but we'll see if my pre-existing chart/settings will work on the new table

 

The Crossfire Pro weighed over 250lbs so that was a small workout moving it about when I got rid of it

New table weighs about 800lbs empty

 

damn thats pretty chonky, I put wheels on mine, and hung a tray under it for all my welders and stuff

 

I do get really bad dross on 3/8 aluminum, and still do even after trying to dial that in.

never done 1/2" steel, but 3/8" stainless header flanges, will need to run more of those this summer

 

I hope you placed the table on a platform; wheels on the frame itself will cause the table to easily go out of square

 

3/8" stainless flanges are exactly what I've got a request to do

Was going to knock them out on the CPro but didn't want to chance it

Stainless ain't cheap

 

kinda, I made a steel frame for the shelf that is welded to the legs, then put these under it https://thecasterguy.com/product-category/specialized-casters/leveling-casters/

I have never noticed any squaring issue, but occaisionally one of the (Y?) axis motors can get stuck if there is buildup on the lead screw, and that sometimes needs fixing.

 

Had considered waterjet and laser since they weren't much more money but...

Waterjet - buying a ton of that abrasive stuff for cutting, super messy, small cut envelope

Also, maintenance gets expensive quick replacing those nozzles or whatever

Laser - also costly to run because gas is needed for cutting thicker material, small cut envelope, questionable Chinese parts

 

if you are going to become a dedicated cut shop and be a certified source for SCS, spend 250k on a laser lol

or stick with plasma cutters

Yeah some guys put casters in lieu of the leveling feet and it throws it all out of square

As for the motor getting stuck? That's an odd one I never heard about

What does happen is crud gets embedded into the gantry tubes, so I'm often using a scotch brite pad to scrub everything off every few weeks

Works great

 

My buddy just spent +60k on two laser tables

They just got delivered a few days ago

I'll have to visit him one of these days and grab some pics; he's the one that just got rid of his 5' x 10' STV CNC table

Ain't no way I'm gonna be dropping that kind of coin, much less 250k

 

Work has been working on getting new lasers this year, they're like 1.2m a piece
They're so nice tho

 

Laser is so sick

Might as well go wire EDM, only issue is that it's slow AF but god damn is it crazy precise

The local off-road shop I like (they did my 63s) just spun off a side laser business. Their rig is badass!

Can only cut conductive materials with EDM, but it is an incredible process

all this talk about precision cutting with badass expensive machinery, and I'm over here just thrilled I was able to make a couple of straight 6 x 20 inch cuts into a piece of wood this weekend with a $30 Harbor Freight orbital jigsaw
