I got a notice about a month ago that the 3rd brake light leak recall was expiring end of April. That's Wednesday next week. I think it only applies to 2016-2019 Tacoma's.

I just today made an appointment to get it done on Monday. I have been hesitant because I don't really think mine is leaking but it might be.

My cabin does get a funky smell after heavy rain but it always clear out quick. I've never noticed anything wet back there, headliner, seats, etc. and no stains as far as I can see. I also had the rear interior stripped to the metal years ago for audio installation and it all looked clean as can be. However, there is clearly a gap between the light housing and metal panel when inspecting it from the outside.

Anyways, just posting in case someone else was procrastinating this/forgot about it and wants to get it done before the expiration. I think expiration is the same for everyone but maybe its specific to the truck?

My truck never had any leak back there either, they just glued a little trim ring around the light.

Dealer did the same thing for mine. I’ve read accounts on here claiming the dealer dropped their headliner to check for water ingress, but I’m skeptical since their “fix” is an exterior trim ring

I never had a problem before the recall but I did bring it in assuming they may deny a warranty claim if it did start to leak. The dealer replaced my light and went hard on the sealant. Couple years later I noticed hairline cracks in the lens so I keep my eye on it.

The TSB as written is for trucks where a leak had already occurred. The trim is probably for trucks in the campaign range that aren't leaking.

I thought recalls didn't expire? This is something like a warranty/extended service campaign, yes?

Correct, it's a service campaign with expiry date, a bit like the frame rust campaigns in decades past. The leak is not considered a safety issue.

Looks like they did the same for me. Was in and out in about an hour. Allegedly, the foremen did it and he said no leak.

Saw a new 4th gen SR extra cab with the steelies for $40k o_O $70k for the Pro
New 4runners look nice. Made in Japan.

Taking my Leer cap off for the recall was a real PIA.. They were going to charge $400+. I am sitting in the dealer as I write this.

True, but the real PIA was getting my brother over to help, and I own the scratches.

Took my 2016 in for a/c warranty work. They wanted to do the 3rd light (it wasn’t leaking) I let them and it leaked after their “fix”. It took two return trips and a free rental twice before they fixed what they caused.

    OMG!

    "Repeats"

I had a similar situation with my U-Bolts after Suspension Upgrade; U-Bolts weren't seated properly...I had to drive 50 miles one way for fix! lol

I enjoy driving my truck and getting away from work...so it was no hassle for me.

The service tech advocated for me because the technician assumed "All Checked Good" and "The truck will be fine and it won't effect anything." lol

I'd be skeptical if I had the 2016-19 model and it did not leak...only for the dealership to mess it up! Doh!!!

thought about this happening, but decided to have it done. I will be vigilant in regard to the repair going forward
