rubber brake lines can deteriorate internally & cause a blockage so the caliper doesn't release but figured that would be both directions..

    Hmmmmm

the caliper’s piston ‘popping’ out is throwing me off here

ever pushed a damaged vehicle around a shop…..like to move from one bay to another? Rolls fine forward but when pushed backwards, the broke suspension part collapses and your dead in the water?

    Checked/inspected all RF suspension parts?

Start with what was last touched.

Betting your brake work needs revision

Do you have ABS? I had a 3rd gen 4runner with abs before I got my truck and one of the front wheels randomly locked up. Pulled the abs fuse and it was fine. Might be worth trying if you have abs.
