As many of my fellow regular cab owners may know, the slip yokes on our driveshafts tend to get nasty vibrations, especially when lifted. Since I'm lifted, I had a really noticable vibration/grind when I'd let off the throttle/decelerate, with a less severe general vibration at all times. I've even seen some guys who sold their regular cabs due to this issue, so hopefully this post eliminates any of that in the future.

There's several remedies on here that have been hit or miss for a lot of people, like a 3/4" spacer, shims, flipping the driveshaft, etc. For me, none of these helped one bit, so I was getting a bit desperate.

I found out about tom wood's custom driveshafts, and saw that they used to make a single piece double cardan shaft for the long wheelbase tacos, but it was discontinued. There was nothing listed for the regular cabs, so I looked in the 4runner section and sure enough, the double cardan for that was just barely long enough to use for my truck. They have a range of measurements to set your length to, and I ended up going with a 49" (1" below their listed maximum) measurement for my automatic 2013. They have a range of flanges to pick from, as well as the option of 2.5" or 3" tube with different thicknesses. I ended up going 3"x0.087".

After installing, I still had a bit of a (different) vibration, so I threw in my 2.5° angle shims to point the pinion further up inline with the shaft. Depending on your lift (or lack thereof) you may want more or less, but that's what I had lying around and it rides like butter now with the 2.5° shims. Total price was less than $50 more than a new OEM driveshaft, and now my truck finally runs smooth as butter for the first time in months.

In conclusion, if you've got a regular cab with driveshaft-parkinson's that won't go away, there's absolutely no better fix than this 4runner DC shaft from Tom wood's. 11/10 would recommend.

This is exactly what I did to fix that annoying driveshaft grinding noise (granted, I ordered my driveshaft from Tom Wood's before they stopped making them for Tacoma's), but ultimately, with the same 2.5° degree shims under the leaf pack, stopped that noise as well. Good to know for other lifted 4WD regular cab owners can order a 4Runner driveshaft and make it work.

Oh that's sweet, so I guess they must have had some overlap in the available lengths of the discontinued Tacoma shafts and this 4runner one. Based on pictures, it seems that the length is the only difference. According to their guy on the phone it was the longer Tacoma ones that were having their own vibration issues hence why they were discontinued, but these shorties are perfect for us RC's. So perfect that it actually felt really weird not having the vibration there anymore

I remember seeing that all over the order page for Tacoma DS, they were tired of hearing people complain/try to warranty/return the driveshafts since for some people, it didn't fix their vibrations. Thankfully I didn't have a vibration issue, just the typical regular cab driveshaft noise.
