Reverse gear took some getting used to when backing up a trailer. But I got used to it.

It's funny - After I posted my response, later the same day my YT-Algo hit me up with this video.
    https://youtu.be/x3L7vlWUndU?si=bp3TPI6RiNkeTkDG

At the time I didn't see the correspondence. But later when I was wishing and opining about how the Auto Industry should follow this example more often, it occurred to me - The 3G Tacoma kinda did. Did they follow it 100%? No. But I think they got closer than anyone else has lately. Was there some room for improvement and picking up some easy wins? You bet there is. But I'll bet you Toyota got closer to the pin that the rest have.

you mean like pushing the stick left and forward to go backwards. Seems like it would be super weird compared to what I'm used to...right and down to reverse.

I would just prefer more low-end torque. It's not any big issue and the truck will move.

My big problem with BC is that I just don't have enough lifetimes to really explore the place. It's my favorite place in the world. The people are pretty awesome too.

It's quite hard to see over that massive hood when climbing steep terrain. I wish I had the forward camera.

I wish the paint was impervious to brush and branches. An unrealistic expectation? Sure, buy one can wish.

I agree with that. It’s just annoying when people make a blanket statement that the engine is weak. The transmission is the issue and not the engine.

What I don't like is when people buy a vehicle and then complain about shit because they didn't do their homework (read research) and properly test drive the vehicle (not the lame dealer Sales guy test drive).

I agree with him on that one. I have a 2019 and I agree that the gas mileage is exceptional, For a truck. I regularly get 25 mpg running around town, and on flat surfaces on the interstates, I regularly get 28 mpg, of course hitting 30mpg going down hill, and well, we won't talk about when it goes up hills! ;-)

I4 or V6? Totally stock? I got 18.6 the other day and was beside myself with joy.

Nailed it. Like this truck has been out for 9 years man, there are a million reviews and 'what to look for' for a new or preowned buyers guide. A few simple hours reading up on the vehicle answers most of these questions.

Until I started reading here I never noticed any little quirks . I love the way the truck looked out of the gate . Drove it home and ever really thought about anything . Once I started reading here the. I would look for stuff. I’m willing to bet people not on this forum , most have no complaints

Our Tacoma is primarily my wife's, but I do drive it some as well. I don't have any complaints about the power or transmission. The only dislike I have is trying to get in a out without crushing the side of the seat bottom. I'm 6'1" - which isn't that tall - and I probably look like an elephant getting into a phone booth. I step on the side step and grab a hold of the steering wheel to lift my self in while ducking my head to clear the roof. Then I have to get my legs both under the steering wheel and position myself. Way too much work, but like I said, I don't want to just drag my butt across the seat getting in/out and wear out the side of the seat bottom.

The only other issues I have with it are how far behind Toyota is on features - it still has the tilt wheel adjustment from Japanese cars from the '80's, as well as the hood prop rod from the same era. There's no holder for the gas cap either. I realize there are aftermarket solutions for the gas cap and hood, but why are they so far behind? My father-in-laws F150 which is 10 years older has a LOT more creature comfort refinements.

OK - through with my rant!

No offense but i am 6'1" as well and weigh in just over 200 and have absolutely no issues getting in and out of my truck - certainly nothing like you describe, you are crushing the seat bottom - are you serious ? - hummm so . . . . .

    Good grief.
I'm in mid 70's , 200+ lbs, with arthritis, unhealed shoulder tendon tears, old sports injuries in both legs, and I get in and out of my Taco no issues. Your father in laws F150 probably cost a lot more than a Taco of the same year. We used to call a hockey player who was always complainin about nuttin... WHINER

I got 25 on a 2.5 hour road trip once…but the conditions were just right and I wasn’t driving fast or aggressively at all.
