So I have the system up and running. I was originally going to go with a 9700X and 32GB of RAM, which I priced out from Newegg. My local Microcenter had cheaper prices, so I went with the 9900X and 64GB instead.

I originally picked up a Gigabyte X870 board, but it must have been defective. It wouldn't accept any of the RAM I tried, even with a BIOS update and a RAM kit on their supported list. I let it sit for 20 minutes since some boards supposedly need a long time for DRAM training, but nada.

Swapped it out for a MSI X870E and everything works. I don't plan on running a dedicated GPU (not a gaming rig), so the 750W PSU will do. A plus with the MSI board is even with the 7mm offset of the giant Noctua heatsink, a GPU should still fit in the primary PCIe slot if go that route in the future.

I liked that MSI Tomohawk x870e board a lot.

Microcenter sent out a text message this afternoon stating 50 series cards were back in stock. Not sure if they still are.

Out of curiosity what are you doing with it that requires that much horsepower and no need for a GPU? Worlds biggest spreadsheet? Or just going overkill for now because the price was right?

I was looking to build a new system to replace my current file server. I figured as long as I was going to build something new, might as well make it powerful for video encoding or other CPU intensive tasks that takes my laptop all day to do. The price was right as well.

Gotcha. If you're video encoding, might make sense to throw an Intel GPU or something to help speed it up. For things like AV1 encoding they're awesome.

I've been using the SVT-AV1-PSY encoder. The software encoder is slower than using a GPU, but can be better fine-tuned for quality.

I know people who have done it. It's okay, not perfect. It's mostly little things. Sleep won't work right because it's a TV, not a monitor, so it'll be more prone to burn in issues even if you treat it well. I don't know if LG fixed this, but for the C2 you can't enable low latency processing (AKA game mode) while retaining custom colour profiles or a few other settings, which sucks because the stock profile looks terrible in HDR. Those are two problems I know of.

Sounds the same as my experience with my Sony. Great for gaming but it's fatiguing on your eyes for any kind of intensive desktop stuff.

That's pretty much what figured. A bit obnoxious for excel and a few other things, but decent overall for gaming.

Told myself I was going to stay out of this Menu, but I couldn't resist. Not sure what tweaks the enhanced modes apply, but even with the 85C thermal limit set, the CPU will boost to nearly 5.5Ghz on all cores.

    MSI_PBO_02.jpg

Undervolting is also tempting. I can still reach about 5.2GHz on all cores with -30 per CCD, temps sit at less than 75C without a thermal limit.

This is with a Noctua NH-D15 and case fans set to low.

I've done this. I don't know how LG is, with Samsung, you have to use a specific HDMI port on the TV, and the source label has to be "PC" or "Computer" if you want a color accurate picture. I had the screen saver set to blank, and the TV set to auto-off after no activity for X minutes. The only thing that annoys me is when the resolution changes, the OSD pops up and won't go away for 10 seconds.

If you don't need a 42" size, the QD OLEDs in the 32" size are often 4K 240hz and get rave reviews. The price is crazy, but they go on sale quite often.

Yeah you won't get Quantum Dot from LG unfortunately. They would have to buy panels from Samsung Display. I prefer the QD OLED over WOLED since, all else being equal, the QD OLED will last longer at the same brightness with less burn in as well. If I bought a new monitor, I'd probably go with this guy. No curve.
