Other than helping out the folks on the ranch, haven’t been on dirt roads much lately. But figured this was a good pic to share.

    Hey fellas,

I've got a rattling sound coming from my transmission that’s been around longer than I’d like to admit, but it’s gotten more noticeable lately. I’m thinking it could be a bearing going bad, and figure I might as well take care of the clutch at the same time. Ideally, I’d like to tackle the job myself, but I’m having trouble finding solid writeups or videos specifically for our trucks.

I did come across this FSM link which is helpful: https://ether3al.com/FSM/taco05-06fsm/

Still, any additional info, tips, or guidance would be much appreciated.

    Truck Details:
    • 2011 Tacoma Regular Cab
    • 5-speed manual (R155F transmission)
    • 4x4
    • URD Short Throw Shifter
    • ~85,000 miles
    • OME 2" lift and 235/85-16 Geolander M/T
    • ARB front bumper
    • ARE cap, typically no weight in the bed unless I'm out camping or moving materials.
    Symptoms:
    • Rattling noise at freeway speeds (50+ mph), only in 4th or 5th gear
    • Happens only when coasting in gear (no noise under acceleration or in neutral)
    • Noise is intermittent—doesn’t happen every time
    • Seems to occur more frequently when the trans is warm
    • If I drive straight to the freeway (~1 mile from home), it usually doesn’t happen
    • If I drive around town first, then hit the freeway, it usually does
I’m thinking it could be the output shaft bearing or countershaft bearing. Anyone run into something similar?

    Clutch Recommendations:
If I go through with the job, I’ll be using OEM parts where I can. However, I'm looking for a clutch that’s reliable for light/moderate off-roading (climbs, steps, ledges, etc. I'm in the southwest so mud isn't typical). The truck isn’t a daily driver, more for camping and trail use.

Appreciate any help or input. Here’s a pic of the subject for good measure:

    Yep.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-reg-cab-rear-driveshaft-flip.191798/

85k is super low for Trans/Clutch/Diff/etc. issues. Suggest some research on RC driveshaft noise/vibrations before you dive in. Flip works for some, 2" spacer from 4crawler for some, adding a zerk fitting and frequent grease for others, have a driveline shop lengthen or add a double cardon joint, or get a tom woods/custom shaft.

A Deka battery, made by East Penn. I had a Duracell, also made by East Penn. and I took it out after 10 years since it was starting to bulge on the sides but it was still working just fine!

My work sells Interstate batteries, and most only last a couple years (we warranty/sell ALOT of batteries).

Believe it or not the TOP OF THE LINE Walmart as it has the best warranty at the best price! (That I could find!)
I “believe” it has a free replacement for the first 4 years. Most are pro-rated starting at 90 days.
Purchased from CostCo for years because of their warranty but they are now prorated
