Update #2: Less than three months after getting my truck back, paint is starting to peel around the top part of the driver side window. I set up an inspection at the dealer, and after seeing it they are taking it back in to get repainted. I also spoke with the service department at another dealership, and she said that they have had a few trucks with the same issue. Figured I would give everyone who has had the fix done a heads up to keep an eye on things.

@JCT86 other people said their dealer putna freeze on it due to more flakes elsewhere. I guess I'll hold off but they might take forever to come to a solution and that is to repaint the whole truck.

I believe the limit is 10 years "after first date of use".

So what's the verdict now on the super whites, they still just doing the 4 doors and both fenders or they going to paint all affected areas or the whole truck? Since it's big possibility they have to fix it again for those who got repaint but now other areas are flaking off.

So what's going to happen when other areas flake, keep bringing it back until every piece gets painted again?

Got my truck back yesterday. First of, let me start by saying my service manager said Toyota is probably going to roll out another bulliten this Summer or Fall to cover the other peeling areas. For more info, keep reading.
I dropped my Tacoma off originally on 3/12/25. Which means Toyota had it for about 1 month. The entire time, I got a loaner Tundra SR5, which was nice. But not as nice as the Capstone I had the previous time for a different service thing. Entire loaner vehicle was covered, no questions asked.

Originally, the service manager warned me that Toyota is unlikely to honor the repair of paint outside of what the recall mentions. And as you can see in my photos, I had A LOT of peeling paint all over the place. But they said they would submit a request, nonetheless.

Then I got a call from the manager stating that Toyota is going to honor the entire paint repair. Some Toyota inspection guy came out and looked at the truck. Apparently there was some back on forth on whether they would paint the doors and fenders now, and LATER have me come back to get the remainder of the paint issues fixed, or if they would just do it all now. Manager said he advocated on my behalf, explaining that it's a hassle to bring customers back in and do the whole loaner vehicle thing again.

The tricky thing about repainting the entire truck is that they likekly have to remove the windshield if the roof is peeling. Usually, when the body shop removes windshield, it breaks. So Toyota has to pay for a new one. My truck got a new windshield... Guessing the original didn't come off very easily. I also noticed new weather stripping on the itemized list. New decals...etc.

I hope this post helps those who are uncertain about what Toyota will or will not do. I also realize my VERY positive experience with Toyota might cause some pain to those who got the short end of the stick with Toyota. But again, it seems pretty clear that Toyota is going to follow up on all of the paint issues, not just the doors and fenders. That's what my service manager said, anyway.

Dealership: Legends Toyota, of Kansas City, KS
    Paint Shop: B Street Collision

ps. When I got my truck back, somehow, there were two fishing bobbers and a small package of masquera in the door compartment... I have NO IDEA where that stuff came from.

I'm glad you ended up with a positive experience out of all this. I've been holding out on taking my Tacoma in, mainly because most of my peeling is in the other areas you had. (Bed, A-pillars, roof). I have a lot on the inside of the fenders by the hood. But so far my doors haven't started peeling, although there's definitely still time for it. This gives me a little hope for down the road if Toyota does include these other areas, at which point I'd eventually take mine in.

Sorry guys, I promise I attached all the photos as "Thumbnails", and not "Full Image". I even checked the code during a post-edit.

Thanks, I was one of many who also experienced Toyota's complete arrogance when I reported the peeling paint back before the recall existed. Glad they, slowly but surely, admitted to it.

Thanks for the update, I'll wait till Aug or fall to bring mine it , mine is peeling all 4 doors, both fenders, roof, front hood and inside where you can peek through the windshield from inside. I'm pretty sure they would have to paint the whole truck or the UN flaking areas will happen sometime soon and they gotta do it again....

Just wanted to share here so everyone can see the process it takes. Had paint peeling on just about every corner of the cab and hood. This Tuesday it will have been 6 weeks since I dropped it off. Super impressed with the dealer and how they are handling this. Even gave me a 2025 sr5 as a loaner.

Wow! Impressive. Good to see Toyota taking care of this. I guess every dealer or paint shop has some variations on re-painting details.

I doubt they would go this far in my truck with a GFC and bed cage/shocks through bed…

Which dealer did you go to? Mine is flaking all except the bed box, I wonder if they will repaint the whole truck?

Toyota of Tampa Bay. They are not painting the bed as Toyota declined that bit.

This makes me sick seeing you folks having to deal with the peeling paint. My white 2022 has peeled yet, none that I’ve seen. I’m hoping it won’t affect me but still I feel for you folks experiencing this issue. It’s ridiculous to say the least.

After a year I finally got the call to take my truck in to be painted, they told me to remove valuable items before bringing it in. Do you guys know if I should remove my aftermarket amp and sub? Not scared it would be stolen but im wondering if the heat will mess up the amp, truck will be painted at Toyota dealer btw

My son has a 2020, picked up few years ago as a CPO, nice clean truck. Always inspected when washed at home and thought we were good. Today, there it was, peeling on the rear door. Waiting to hear back from Toyota dealer as just reported today. Just one spot so not sure if wait till worse, or will they usually paint all anticipated problems areas. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Report it, I’m pretty sure that’s how it started for all of us. Check the edges of the fenders under the hood, might have started there already and you haven’t noticed
