Yes, but if you have a lazy tech, he can pick & chose what he wants to do, clean it off again, say he saw nothing & hopes you go away...
Not saying thats the case here, not like pulling a transfer case is difficult...

But then again, I dont know if they specialize or if theyre bumper to bumper.....

Just giving you some pointers to cover yourself, just incase it goes sideways again...

Toyota corporate won't cover the bill at full freight. The dealership gets a fraction of the labor costs, not the full hourly rate. So they'd rather get your car off the rack and get another vehicle in the air that isn't a warranty issue

That's why we see these rush jobs with the warranty frame replacements. They're not getting 40 hours at full retail labor price, they're getting "warranty rate" which is much less.. those techs are under pressure to go as fast as possible

But OP said this 90 day warranty is through Carmax. So they are footing the bill, not Toyota? Toyota is just doing the work. Thats how I read it

The car has two warranties. One through dealer CarMax and one through Toyota because it’s only 3 years old with 25k mikes. CarMax is taking responsibility for whatever Toyota charges or doesn’t repair. Toyota is still obligated to fix anything power train related.

Yea you are correct, he did say it was a carmax warranty..

I've dealt with 3rd party warranty companies and they are notoriously cheap and frugal.

Maybe the dealership has to "know for sure" where the leak is coming from or the warranty company will reject the claim? It's still pretty silly though. Like, you're looking up at 2 gear boxes.. it's either coming from this one or that one, they butt together and there's an empty space where they meet and bolt up. Just pull it apart and fix it. It's not like there's a million seals in there, literally just 2.. and they're cheap.. do them both..

A leak is a leak is a leak: They don't get better, even with a good clean-up. ;) To me, it looks like its coming from the drain-plug area: maybe they re-used the crush washer and then over-tightened it because they always leak when you re-use them. Or if someone did a fluid change on it, they probably over-tightened the fill-plug too. The air-stream under there is now blowing the oil everywhere. If it's not obvious where it's coming from, clean it again and visually check it every ten miles or so.

They got a drip this AM and said it was only the TC side. They are replacing the seal. I will make sure the area is very clean and check it weekly to make sure it's not coming from anywhere else.
