For the life of me I cannot choose which tire size I wanna go with. I plan on getting the 17 sema wheels gloss gray and currently have trd 2/1 level. I do not want to cmc and preferably no trimming. I’m leaning toward 255/75/17 cooper road and trail but am not sure on the no rubbing part. I know 285 are very popular but I want to minimize mpg loss as I never off road.IMG_4985.jpg

I just went through this...I ended up with just a 2" level kit and some -12 offset wheels and the Toyo Open Country Trails 275/75 R17. Very light weight...truck still has plenty of get up and go and I love the look. I only have very slight rubbing when backing up and turning coming out of a steep driveway. with wheels.jpg

265/70r17 if you want one size bigger. Lots of sl options available.

I would go with the 265 65 17 or one size up like veet-88 said 265 70 17 any larger IMO looks like balloon tires.

I did and I did not see a huge change to be honest and they are light so that helps with MPG

285s on sema wheels, tuned, no cutting or trimming and I see no loss of mileage. I still run the factory mud guards and since I have been tuned it’s gained in power! I personally think 255s look awful and 275s are heavy. A night light weight Toyo open country sl rated is one of if not the lightest 285.

    • ~2.5" lift with Bilstein 5100s, AAL, OME 2885
    • 16" TRD Bead lock style alloys
    • Falken Wildpeak AT3W 285/75 r16
Rubbed on front OEM mudflaps before I removed them. Otherwise, surprisingly little to no rubbing unless a number of factors occur simultaneously - If I'm driving particularly spirited down a very specific angled parking lot onto a flat road making a right turn (never a left). This has only happened 2-3 times since installing the wheels/tires around 1 year ago.

It may be due to changing driving habits (or just in my head), but my average gas mileage has improved by 1-2 MPGs. The stock LTD 18" alloys seemed a lot heavier.

If your wanting to retain your OEM mud guards, the consensus is that 285/70r17 will sometimes rub a little. There will be a few that will say, "my OEM mud guards don't rub with my 2" lift" and that may be true but I suspect the majority of 285's will rub OEM mud guards with a 2" lift.

Based on your statements, I'd recommend a lightweight SL 265/70r17's. I have never been able to find a light weight 275/70r17.... they are all close to 50lbs(or more).

    Here's mine with 2" front/rear lift with 265/70r17's. I average 19.5mpg.

One tire size up on my sport 265/70R17. Thinking of 33” pizza cutters this time 255/80R17. Undecided on wheels. Maybe SEMA T4R.

If you really want to minimize MPG loss, keep it stock with an SL load rating.

285's will not rub a little with oe flaps. They will eat them. I rubbed my rokblokz flaps occasionally and they are substantially lower profile.

I don't rub with the oem mud guards with 285son a +4 off set SEMA wheel. A good alignment and I did oval out the bottom hole on the mud guards and was able to move them back almost an inch. Worked great and can't tell a thing!

I went from ko2 265/75/16 trd wheel to those toyo at 275/70 with the trd sema rims and lost a ton of weight at the wheels. Truck has better pickup, gets better mpgs, and the tire size is a 32.16 vs 31.65 so a touch bit more clearance. Noticeable as you step in the cab.

My 285's always rubbed on my front OE mudflaps when I was backing into my driveway (sharp angle)
