Why concerned? I handle them more than any other bug. Great hunters that don't leave behind a web. Added bonus the females will completely devour the males haha

    @time623

Old picture from over 5 years ago, this was my L Parahybana. The one on the right is the one I posted yesterday, my M Balfouri.

    20200926_193540.jpg

I had it for awhile and it got pretty big before I sold him - he was a good 11" across it's legs.

One day, I was able to get one of this molts before he obliterated it. Good thing too cause even at his big size he was fast AF.

Kept it, even though it was probably only 7-8" but I figured it could be cool to fuck with someone (or put it in a shadowbox). Fast forward a few years, meet my wife, and she thought it'd be cool AF to put it in a shadowbox and put it up in her classroom.

Some kids love it, and those that hated it grew over their fear and started to ask questions about it.

Me? I kind of always hated spiders but forcing myself to get a few as a pet made me completely get over it.

Dang, those are the least to worry about

Especially New World species, they're docile AF and refrain from biting any chance they get

Worst you'll experience is one getting cornered, then kicking up its urticating hairs at you which can cause a bit of itching and discomfort

It's the Old World species you don't want to fuck with which, you won't run into anyway

Growing up, the first time I was ever home alone for an entire weekend, on the first night I heard our cat freaking out in the kitchen. Went out there to find this massive fucker, crawling around under the kitchen table. Legs curled for walking he was probably like 6" across. Freaked me the fuck out, went and grabbed our full print Merriam Webster dictionary and dropped it on that bitch. Followed that up with a big king james bible for good luck, and left it there all weekend.

Once my parents got home we lifted it, thing was sprayed out to the size of a full dinner plate, like 12" across. I can still see it

Yeah, guts spread out are pretty nasty

Now you just need to bed exposed to something even worse and it'll make the tarantula nightmare seem like a dream :bananadead:

Its not even the biting lethality that gets me, they're just horrible things
We had a ton of black widows all around the house and garage, now I obviously don't like them and steered away, but they don't give me that same visceral reaction of a big ass hairy tarantula

    Interesting.

For me it's the opposite. I hate that rounded bulb-type look.

Like I said, you just need some exposure to some really fucked up shit

Well still hate, and if any of them were in my bedroom I ain't sleepin. But I could grab something off a shelf that had a black widow above it, I'm out the fuckin house when its a tarantula above it lol

I think I'm ok with not being exposed to more lmao
