I have the RCI 20deg with lockout and no top tread. I use them every day as a step into the truck. So do my kids. My 7 yr old says they are too high but he will grow into them. I’m 6’2 and I like using them. Helps me get over the bolster in the seat. Never had a problem with them.

They are definitely beefy. I think mine weighed in at around 105-110lb per side. One thing I like about theirs is that they seem to have more coverage front to back than others. I believe they are longer than most.

shell, skids, sliders, suspension, bumper, winch, lockers
2 different use cases suggest 2 applications.

Sliders' primary purpose is to protect the truck from damage when wheeling.
It is best that the sliders themselves do not become the problem by catching on obstacles, so they need to be as high and tight to the body/frame as practical.

Steps are to ease entry in and out of the cab. They are best when located away and below the body/frame, for stepping on.

Maybe you need normal (any) sliders for protection and one of those retractable steps for ingress/egress.

Or bolt on step you can remove when you don't want the dangling rock-catcher.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
My sliders are 20° without top plates. Being vertically challenged, using them is the only practical way into the truck with a lift and 33s. They also work great for getting to stuff on my roof rack. This is the grip tape I used, it sticks very well and isn't abrasive at all: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PZFBG2...1_4&amp=&crid=20FTOT7I9P399&sprefix=grip&th=1

Here are a few pics of my 20 deg without in the insert. I put the phone against the door handle and shot straight down for the above views.

Thanks. I've have been in touch with them. I do like the aluminum for weight savings as you say. I mainly want these as insurance as opposed to actually planning on sliding on rocks. Save my truck in the case I happen to need them.

Check out the Cali Raised LED rock sliders they’re made for that exact balance. You can spec them with a kick-out, which adds just enough angle and width to make stepping up way easier, especially if you're reaching up to roof gear. They're also available with top plates (either full or treaded), which gives you more surface area and grip underfootsuper handy if it's wet or muddy.

    • Fits 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacomas

    • Bolt-on or weld-on options

    • Made in the USA

    • Heavy-duty DOM tubing

    • Optional powder coating

    • Lifetime warranty
Here’s the setup I’ve been running on my 3rd gen:
Toyota Tacoma Rock Sliders – Cali Raised LED

I’ve smacked mine on some rocky climbs and they’ve held up no problem. Plus, they double as a legit step when I’m strapping stuff to the roof rack or brushing off snow. Definitely worth a look if you’re going for both function and form.
