If it’s recommended by an employee wearing a blue vest with an identifier of LUBE TECH, it has to be TRUE.

Valvoline has a new product called 'restore'.....
the reviewers seem to like it

at 50K i'm gonna run a qt thru mine for 1K

I wouldn't think twice about running in any under 200K engine....
    just maybe sparring at first

the number they're giving you is for the 3rz.......maybe the techs are saying you're stupid and bought the wrong truck...
    mocking you

maybe get rid of the truck......or pull into the nearest parking lot,,,and wait for rescue

Surprised they even know how to use a book. We can all agree Walmart pays extremely well and only hired top notch mechanics for their 5-star service

99% of the stuff I've seen go thru walmart is tire and battery changes....
there is always line waiting for these....

their tire techs gets lots of practice there.......

    haven't thrown a tire ......yet

if you order thru their dot com and sent to the store......tire mounting/balancing is about half price

Let’s please not tangent this thread to Walmart bashing. Anyways, at the bottom of Walmart’s Mobile 1 Advanced pic a line notes “6.2 quarts are needed for you vehicle.” This is typical of other auto stores besides Walmart selling this same product and noting 6.2 quarts. Just saying.

I would see if the dealership has a new oil dipstick tube and compare the overall length and installed depth... it has been decades but I recall that certain Fords?, if I remember correctly, had an issue with the cup on the oil dipstick, the part that limits how far into the oil pan the dipstick would go, would slide up the stick and give false readings. According to the dipstick there was enough oil but in actuality it was low, way low and they would loose motors.

Additive or not, Its going to mix in with the total amount drained. Not hidding by itself up in a dark crevice some where. Your over thinking this.

I can live with my .5 qt. discrepancy (5.5 qts. with filter). As for oil change places and retail auto stores stating 6.2 qts. I’ve got no clue.

    Oil capacities are approximate.

@Steves104x4 was joking around, that's what he does. you don't have a liter of sludge taking up space in your engine

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’d love to see a can of carb cleaner sprayed into the oil pan through the drain plug hole and see what comes out.

When I started out at the Toyota dealer in San Diego in the early 80's, I was the lube tech, .30 time units per oil change. I had 2 lifts and a floor jack and jack stands. There were no belly pans in those days and tire rotation was not included, rack the cars dump the oil replace the filter and drain plug gasket, add 4 or 5 qts depending on the vehicle. After the first pay period the Service Manger who hands out the paychecks had to look twice at my first check. I was making more that the brake and front end guys were which is where the easy money was. Today and oil change takes 1/2 a day.

For anyone wondering what the FSM from Toyota actually calls for,

From the 95-97 FSM for the 2RZ and 3RZ:

And here's the 01-04 FSM for the 2RZ and 3RZ (pretty much the same):

Don’t overthink it. Should be checking your oil when the engine is warm, not cold.

After 133k and 22 years, I don’t doubt that. I’m tempted to let sleeping dogs lie.

Maybe the manual techs should buy one of the damn trucks...
