My Taco doesn't have the tailgate release switch in the cab. There is an unlabled cover that is used in other models. Is there a wiring harness present so that all I have to do is get a switch, pop off the cover and install a switch? If so, how is that cover popped off without destroying anything?

Even if the harness is in place things like that usually take multiple parts. Switch, relay, fuse, and maybe solenoid at the tailgate.

I don't know what your truck requires, just heads up that it's probably more than a switch.

I'd start by finding if there is unused wiring at the tailgate where the release mechanism would be

The solenoid exists because I can open it by hitting the FOB twice. If I could get my hands on a wiring diagram, I could figure out if it is doable. I have done a lot of wiring work and diagnostics on cars for about 10 years.

Getting the parts is a whole new problem. LoL

The power tailgate is power up/down and would require the motor to replicate what the OEM button does.

I just want it to release with a rocker switch, not power up/down. It may be a function of the BCM using the FOB. If that's the case, it is too much of a headache to even try adding a switch. Working on electrical stuff is a headache in itself sometimes.

OK. I am being real dumb here. I was looking through the owners manual, and I can pop the tailgate open by hitting the door unlock switch twice. Sorry for wasting peoples time.

HOLD THE PHONE. Is there a USDM vehicle that has (manual) load adjustable headlight tilt? Europe has had this for decades. Now, will Americans be smart enough to use it?

I recall reading a thread here in which someone was insisting they had to turn it all the way upwards so they could see better so as to ensure his family's safety, even though he was regularly getting flashed by other people who were getting blinded and would thus be more likely to hit him head on. So no.

I have used it a few times and it works as designed. Nice feature and it does help when you have loaded up the truck with people and bed weight. It will certainly blind opposing drivers and hit rear view mirrors of those in front of you if you don't set it correctly according to load.

In the future I could see this automated based on measured weights at the 2 axle points.

The Lexus GX 460 has built in auto leveling headlights. Since the button would be too hard to figure out. :crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm:

I still want a factory service manual with a wiring diagram for future use. I plan on keeping this truck for a couple more minutes. I just wanted a switch that would unlock the gate by not having to use the FOB. I don't need that now.;)
